I know that an amp is more than the sum of it's parts, but I noticed that the Z Master has a decent amount of component overlap to the Z28 MKII. Are the two amps quite similar? I haven't found a comparison video and trying to compare the two across a bunch of different videos with different players who use different gear, etc... makes it hard to determine. Here are the some of the specs for each. I hope it formats ok.
Z Master/Z28 MKII Power Output: 30 Watts / 35 Watts Output Tubes: 2 – 5881 / 2 – 5881 Preamp Tubes: 3 – 12AX7 / 1–EF-86 & 1–12AX7 Rectifier: 1 – 5AR4 / 1 – 5AR4

They are quite different. The Z-Master is more of an old school tweed fender bandmaster spun up and done right, and the Z-28 MKII is it's own unique beauty. Both great amps but very different.

I have both and agree with Dave! Considering the cab, 5881’s, and the Treble/Bass tone control that actually works alot like each other (the way tone controls impacts gain at respective frequency bands). I woulda thought theyd be closer, but quite different character.

The breakup in a tweed style amp is wholly different than the EF86 type, and there's a big difference in fidelity. The Z Master is more complex in the midrange, where the Z-28 has a more hi-fi sparkle and snap to it. Also, consider the speaker complements are very different.

I was actually wondering the same thing. Is the z-28 2 in a sense the “kid brother” to the z-master?

Z-Master to me was looser and spongier the Z-28 MK11 has a bit more percussive snap to it. Both excellent amps they both do what they do very well. The only thing they have in common is that cab.

Brother from another mother, and more rebellious lol. Dude. I have (on loan) a real deal, all original ‘56 les Paul jr. The sound through my Z-28-2 is unreal! The hype around the original p-90 is real. Now to find 15k to buy the guitar…..lol

I wanted the z master but by the time I got the funds it was out of Sweetwater inventory... having wanted a Route 66 for years I thought I'd try a mix of the route 66 + z master and get the z28ii. I know they're all different amps but conversationally y'all know what I'm saying lol.
What is this cab made of?
