Hey All,
I am new to the forum but not new to the guitar and bass world... Normally I am a bass player in public and a bedroom guitar player.
I recently picked up a new to me Z-Plus that was loaded with a Z12 in it. It was amazing, but as we all get to thinking, how would it sound with x...
I had an Eminence Wheelhouse 150 sitting a single 12 cabinet I had built and decided to throw it in the Z. The Wheelhouse 150 is a hemp cone neo magnet speaker with a LOUD 102 spl rating. It was like a new magic trick for the Z. It cleaned up like an Alnico would but kept the warmth of the Z ceramic.
I swapped a 3RD Power Dual Citizen Reverb head for this amp amp and am totally pleased with the deal. I didn't bond with my last Z as it was a Mas 18 Reverb combo loaded with the G12H30 and it always felt off to me. This amp is completely different but similar.
My list of great amps from the past: 64' Blackface Bassman - original 64' Vibroverb clone - hand built to spec Swart Mod84 Morgan SW50R Maz 18 reverb combo - MKII upgraded 3rd Power Wooly Coats 3rd Power Dual Citizen Reverb head Z-Plus
A few others from my past: Fender blues junior III Orange Terror Stamp pedal amp (current backup on board)
Has anyone heard of or tried the Wheelhouse speaker in a Dr Z amp?

That’s a lot of speaker. Had to look that one up as I hadn’t heard of it. Probably sounds great in the Plus and saves a few pounds as well.

Hey Todd,
Thanks for the reply. It isn't much lighter than a Z12. I am a fan of hemp cone speakers once you break them in (about 40+ hours for this one).
My Z-Plus only had about 20 hours on it from the original owner so it wasn't broken in.
We both came out fairly well on the deal. I came out with the Z, factory pedal and some cash and he ended up with the 3P Dual Citizen Reverb head, a Single wide body 12 cab loaded with a Jensen Blackbird Alnico 100W speaker, factory reverb and ABY pedal and a full set of replacement tubes since the Z runs on 6v6's.
I am debating putting the Z12 back in the cbo and selling off my backup rig - 112 hand built 3/4" finger jointed pine cab with maple front and rear baffles - small rear port or 3/4 closed, the Wheelhouse speaker and my Terror Stamp 20 watt pedal amp.
I bought the Wheelhouse as my Morgan SW50R blew a Cannabis Rex about 2 weeks in to pushing it hard to test it so my Sweetwater rep said step up to the big boy Wheelhouse speaker.
It is extremely clean, warm and articulate, but it has very little reviews online with a smaller user base.
