Finally got around to really throwing a bunch of effects at the Z28mkII. Up until now, I've been playing mostly guitar straight in. Just enjoying all it has to offer there. But after revising my small board, I got to playing. (Jam Eureka fuzz > wampler ratsbane distortion > xotic super sweet booster > walrus apr-87 delay > jam waterfall chous > jam harmonious monk harmonic trem > wampler faux spring reverb) That amp articulated everything I threw at it so beautifully! I was surprised once again! This amp keeps surpassing my expectations the more I play it. Even gained up to the hilt, boosted, heavy delay, verb, trem... it kept it together. Frequencies stayed balanced. Never got harsh. Never fell apart. Alway remained super responsive to my touch and guitar volume. WOW!
What has been all your experiences with pedals into this thing?
Any favorites?

Same here. Its unadulterated voice is wonderful and I often return to it. Used the ethos clean2 on a variety of settings and a nocturn fluid drive. With those I preferred to push the amp with the pedal lightly gained but the amp is a great microscope to hear the pedals nuances. The hardware plugged in seem to have more colour and dynamics. It becomes fairly obvious that some pedals have more containment built into them and others rush the signal through them. I especially notice this with digital units which is leading me down the rabbit hole of analog effects.

I am using the Jam Retro vibe-Jam wahcko wah- Chase tone Purple stardust octavia- Chase Tone fuzz fella-lovepedal tchula-Missing links audio Hot lanta-Jam pedals delay lama mk3. I was using the BE overdrive its not bad but t just has way to much gain in it. The Hot Lanta is like a cranked amp tone and it can get that tone at any volume so thats better for me. Everything that I throw at this amp responds in a way as though its part of the amp. The tchula is always on. It just adds more dynamic's to the Z-28MK11 just a little more slightly broken up tone that you can roll back and still get great clean tone and blues licks and funk licks. I would say its my main pedal I use with it. I did a gig at a bigger church a few weeks ago and all I took was the Tchula and my fuzz and it was all I really needed.

The amp exposes a poor pedal right now. The thing that made me initially fall in love with this amp is it's pure harmonically rich tone plugged straight in. I went down to Cleveland to see Doc and pick up my EMS early last summer and Doc said "Hey Dave, I've got a treat for you. You can play Brad Paisley's new amp before he does!" Turns out Brad's Z28 MKII was doing it's final checks before shipment to Nashville, so I plugged my Duesenberg Joe Walsh signature guitar in and strummed some open chords. Doc and I sat there grinning at each other while the harmonics rang out. I've never heard such a pure, responsive guitar tone. I quote Z: "Tone, tone, tone, tone...Is there a substitute?"
All that said...I've used a bunch of drives with it and it eats 'em up. Reverbs and delays too. Right now I've got a JHS Bender Fuzz, SLO Super Lead Overdrive, and the Friedman Smallbox and Friedman Dirty Shirley for drives. It loves them all.

Right now I am running a Greer lightspeed set to unity and always on.( It adds a nice top end glassiness), into a RYRA klone set for low/medium gain. What a sound! I also have an el-capistan v2 and a flint v2 for delay and verb. Man, they really do become part of the amp. The verb feels like the spring reverb in my maz 18. I also play around with a univibe and switch out gain pedals a lot. Fuzzes work great too. At first I didn’t really bond with the amp but after some tweaking I really love the sound. It’s a keeper for sure.
