I brought home a new-to-me Z-Lux last November. Sounded great in the store, great when I got it home. Very happy with it, even without the upgrades. Then I got to thinking (a bad thing) that it was just too much amp for my mostly at-home playing and offered it up in trade at one of my local shops. Owner was a bit hesitant so no deal was made. Turned it on again when I got home and realized that there was no way I was gonna get rid of the amp. Even at low volume, it sounds perfect. Too much? Nah, it's sorta like having a 600 HP Corvette; do you need that much? Nope, but even at legal speed, it drives great; and, if you ever get to a place to open it up, BAM, you've got the power to do so. Being a blackface lover for a long, long time, Doc hit it out of the ballpark with this one.....

I have a bunch of Z amps that sound good at home. They all sound FANTASTIC on stage. But the Z-Lux is the one that sounds amazing any volume, any place. I love that amp.

I made that very mistake myself and still regret it. Of all the amps I've had so far (and there's a bunch of Dr Z in the shell), the Z-Lux was my favorite. Big, warm, clear, articulated... A great amp. Now with the upgrades which are supposed to make it even more manageable at low volume, it should be even greater.

The Z-Lux is an awesome amp! Put it in 1/2 power and go for it!

It's always better to have too much than not enough! MV is soooo good on this amp and it really fills the room with sound.
Running at haf power really helps when tweeking the MV without as big of vol leaps. Hope that makes sense 😀
