insert code here Wondering how many people who use an EZG live feel the need to use an attenuator. I have a Z Brake in mine, but am considering taking it out and going back to just amp to cabinet. Do people who don't have the MV mod feel you can use pre/post to get the volume to a comfortable level?

When I used to play out with the EZG (many years ago), I didn't use an attenuator but I bought the amp for it's clean BF voiced headroom. I will say that the Z-Repair MV mod adds a lot of flexibility to the amp's pre\post controls.

Do people who don't have the MV mod feel you can use pre/post to get the volume to a comfortable level? I have gigged out with the EZG-50 a few times with the 4x10 cabinet and never used the attenuator with it even though I had some available. But as the earlier response mentioned I love the amp for it's beautiful clean sound and I would use a tube screamer to get some more sustain, compression and overdrive when needed. For recording or just playing around at home I have used attenuators but live I need instant access to the clean tone so using attenuator doesn't work for me on stage. This was in a cover band where I need to cover a lot of different tones for all kinds of different songs. I need to play this amp more but since I started building my own amps I haven't played it. Edit: Also, mine is from April 2011 and as far as I know is original and I have been interested in the bass reduction mod because I almost always keep the bass turned way down.

The last gig I played I used the EZG into a Z 1x12 with Creamback, back open, outside. I thought it sounded and felt fantastic, and had lots of compliments on the tone too. Super fun to play. I have the master mod, but I left it all the way up.
I mainly used a LP custom with the 490/498(?) stock pickups which are pretty high output, and kind of dark in a way, but the neck pickup really had a jazzy sort of vibe to it with those pickups too.
Basically the amp was dialed in to be just a really nice clean tone with a lot of headroom with the Les Paul. Like not looking for grit from the amp. Mainly used an Origin Effects revival drive which has 2 sides, one set for a Marshall type crunch distortion and one lower like you would think from a tube screamer or something. I sort of overall feel that gain/distortion pedals have too much compression, but the headroom on the amp I think really helps that. Particularly at volume with that setup, you'd think you were listening to an old cranked Marshall. Lastly, I had another pedal (voodoo labs gigity) that I turned on when I used a strat to kind of match the output and tonal balance of the les paul, and that worked fantastic too.
Bottom line, I couldn't have been happier with the amp, it just sounded beautiful. I also had a lot of extra volume on tap if I needed it.
That's just me though. If you are looking for those SRV type tones straight from the amp, it's right there if you crank the amp up, but loud as hell too. I guess that second master would help you get those tones at a more reasonable volume, as would an attenuator, but there's some tradeoff there either way from the amp just screaming in all it's glory.
I guess to your question, it depends on the person. For me, the amp without that second master or attenuator is perfect just as is and does exactly what it's supposed to do in spades.

You guys aren’t helping me any. The EZG is the only Z left that I want to try. I’ve been a little scare to buy one, because I want all the upgrades and the $$ get expensive.
If the MV is anything like the Z28 I’d have to say just go for it. I LOVE the MV on the MKII.
