Received the Z28 mkii yesterday. Put 6 hours in it and although I’m aware of preaching to the choir I’ll share a different perspective. My first 10 years as a player was on acoustic guitar and it was circumstance that led me down the rabbit hole exploring the electric. I love both approaches to the instrument but it became clear that the Z28 mkii allows me to play the electric like an acoustic. Through the hours of listening to the speaker break in I caught myself playing songs that I only attempt on acoustic. There’s such an openness and fidelity to the Z28 mkii those acoustic techniques flourish and sound correct. It appears to me that this amp allows the homogenization of all my techniques, something I find compelling and encouraging. Early days for sure with a new amp but over the years and a long line of nice amps through my little studio doors this is fresh. I preferred plugging straight in the best. No real need for enhancement. A shout out to the enthusiasts who post here. It’s been a good read and education.

I'm off to gig tonight with Iluvpunz. He's bringing his new Z28 II. He'll be cranking that thing into the sweet spot so I'll get to hear it cranked up and in the mix. I can't wait. But....it will be bittersweet, since we can't have to Z28's on the same stage. He bought it before I did and I'm bringing the Jetta.

How many times have you seen multiple plexi’s on stage???😁

Welcome to the forum and great review. I just did a gig last night at a bigger church and the Z-28Mk11 cut though the mix like a champ. All I used was a boost and a fuzz pedal and my tone controls on my guitar. This amp was made to gig with it’s still the best amp imho. It has such a beautiful rich tone. It’s like it’s own instrument in itself. Very percussive and responsive to whatever you give it it will give it right back to you. The Doc really knocked it out the park with this amp.

I went over and sat in front of it for a song, while he was playing it with a Tele. He loved it and he's keeping it.

I am waiting on the "factory" EF86 since mine showed up with major microphonics (stuff happens but Don already mailed a new one) but I put an old one from my previous Z28 and use a Holy Grail reverb and a Boss SD-1 (not kidding, I have boutique pedals as well) set to full gain. I have a huge pedalboard but this sounds the best so far to me. Guitar volume from clean to mean. I tell ya I played it this way in my big open 2 car garage with a Strat and holy cow does this thing sing! To be fair my garage makes everything sound better but this sounded by far the best. Compression, sustain for days, cut, bite, warmth and its red! What more could you want? Enjoy and Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum and the gang of growing Z28 MKII converts. I've said it before but it bears repeating...it's the best amplifier I've ever played, hands down. The harmonics are simply breathtaking.

Well it’s been 5 days and 30 or so hours on it and the speaker is breaking in nicely. The grain in the trebles are almost gone. Over this time I’ve used boosts, drives and eq’s to tailor the tone but as the amp gone more hours on it I needed them less and less. Love to open thickness but have a question about more focused lead tones. Wondering what others have tried. I’ve been exploring the JHS Haunting Mids on line and seems a simple and quick way to dial in a lead tone. My Boss eq works but not nearly as fast or in some cases musical. That could be me though. Still exploring that. Seems quite neutral and a bit characterless. Look for a bit more mojo. Thanks.

With humbuckers I've had good luck with the Friedman Dirty Shirley or the Smallbox. I think it sounds good with the Soldano SLO pedal too. I can't speak to single coils because I haven't been playing them too much lately.

I use the lovepedal gold tchula with single coils and humbuckers One of the forum members Jeff had one up in the market place for sale.
