Thanks for having me. Been enjoying the threads on the mkii. Mine should be here Thursday if there are no delays. I’m curious if anyone has explored a darker tone with this amp. I hear lots of beautiful bright tones in video but somewhere in this forum one fellow mentioned jazz inspired tones hiding in it. Seems to me with that lower mid push this amp exhibits might lend itself to some pulpy warm jazz tones. Anyone explored this? Cheers.

It really works well in my Big Band. Cuts through but smooth. For jazz comping, just roll off the guitar tone and you're there. There are lots of great sounds in that amp.

I don't play jazz. But the Z28mkII has a nice thickness and definition. Rolling back the treble control would get you in the ballpark I'd say.

As much as I love my new Z-28 mkii, it is not my go to for a nice warm jazz tone. If I am playing straight ahead jazz, Im usually using my z lux with the treble way down and mids up. On the Z-28, you have to really turn treble all the way down to get close. Having said that, everyone has there own idea of what an ideal jazz tone is, and if you dont mind a slightly brighter sound then the new Z-28 should work just fine, especially if you use the tone knob on your guitar like Dave mentioned.

Well it’s been since January when I first posted about warmer tones. The Creamback 65 has really broken in nicely and warmer tone are available now. I have discovered the Origin Effects DCX and use that which can conger up all sorts of delicious tones from dark, bright, acoustic or driven. The Z28 takes it all in stride and never sounds unnatural. Another behaviour change is playing dry. Until this amp I always had some spacial thing going on but this amp sound so good dry and it seems I loose some of that essence when I apply FX. It reminds me of playing an acoustic guitar on the porch. Quite special.
