I installed the 12" Greenback in my Z-28 combo and compared the tone with my Z/28MKII and the tone was exact (to this old mans ears)? Anyone else try the comparison? If so what do you hear differently other than girth, and of course the master volume?

The biggest difference for me the way the sound is projected. I have the Z-28 MK11 combo. It's just a bigger fuller sound. As far as the sound goes it is pretty much the same tone. It still has that Z-28 original tone. There is nothing wrong with the old Z-28 its still A great amp. The Master volume on the newer version is of course a huge plus. I am not a fan of attenuators. And with the master volume on the newer version its more versatile you can get some other type of flavors out of this newer version but yes you are correct the DNA is the same. I just prefer the Z-master cab that the Z-28 MK11 is in t just makes it better for me for gigs.

I have an mkii… I’ve had a couple z28’s… all heads. The two years since I had an original matter, but it’s the same magic to me, but much more versatile with the MV.

I forgot to mention I have a MKII head. I'm running it through a Z convertible 1X12 with a cream back! And you're all right with the master volume it is much more versatile but I can dial them both so close that with my eyes closed I just really couldn't tell any difference in the tone! That Doctor is a magician!

The Prototype that I have has 6v6’s in it. Next to my originals on an attenuator it passes the blindfold test with flying colors. I set the amps up the same way and it was spot on. The MV on the MKII is amazing,
My old Z Cabs are loaded with Greenbacks, but the MKII is running a Modern Z Cab with a Z12 and I could not be happier with my tone. I even throw it in front of 10’s and it sounds so darn good.

I have both, but the more mature Z-28 is a head. The younger Z-28/MKII is the combo. I run the original Z-28 through a 2x10 cab loaded with Eminence Legend 1028k alnico speakers. It is a solid pine, open back cab with a Baltic birch floating baffle. Evan though the cabs were different I was able to get them to sound vary close to each other. I even tried the 3-3-3 settings and the Master was so helpful. The one big difference was how 3-D the MKII combo sounded. It really did fill out the room.

…..in addition to the PPI MV I have found the tone controls on the MK II to be even more interactive than the the two legacy Z-28’s I owned in the past….especially the treble control….I find the MK II to have a greater variety of tones on tap….and it’s more “muscular”….

I have a Legend Z-28 1-10 combo and the Z-28 MKII combo. I’ve never A-B’d them live and loud, but have done so at 9:00 volume. The MKII tone was a little more to my liking. I would like to get them both out together; outdoors preferably.

I have a 2006 Z-28 and a new Z-28 MkII. Still learning, but the MkII sounds great and very quiet. My older Z-28 is for sale on Reverb, I now have 4 Dr Z amps.

How do I get access to the forum market? Thanks.
Sorry for the off topic post, but I didn’t see an ‘Ask the admin’ type place to ask.
