I have a Galaxie 1x12 combo and really like it. I can't get it to bond with my Maxon OD808. It's a very articulate amp, maybe more than any amp I've had. It sounds amazing with my brake lite. When I need more drive at times, my go to Tube Screamer settings aren't working. With my Route 66 a TS becomes part of the amp. The Galaxie seems to fight the mid heavy frequencies. I'm going to try my Klon at rehearsal and see if that's a better fit. If you have any Galaxie overdrive pedal suggestions please let me know.
This Galaxie has me rethinking how I approach an amp. In a very good way.

I’m surprised you just don’t use the second channel. It’s a wonderful sound. I think you’ll like it. As always YMMV.

I’ve used: BB Pre and AC from Xotic … also some of the Fulltone pedals … and a Sole Pressure from HAO … can’t really speak to Tube Screamer
But as Bill mentioned, channel 2 is plenty fun.
And yes, Galaxie can make you rethink how to approach tone and technique… I‘ve had both the MV and non MV models and used various speaker configurations. As T-Rock once said Galaxie is like an instrument unto itself (not exact words, but the gist is that it takes time to learn and know and the reward is well worth the effort).
Cheers always, eh

I’m not surprised at what you discovered, if I used anything it had to be neutral eq in design and not scooped like the TS type pedals. I think when I had the Galaxie if I used any boost at all it was the Burriss Boostier. But my best results came from dropping back my guitar volume and tone controls slightly then set the amp controls to taste and use your guitar controls along with your pick or finger attack. If I remember correctly it seemed that this also smoothed the transition to channel 2 and gave more gain options once there. It’s a great amp!

And it turns out the problem is ME! My OD808 kicks arse with the Galaxie. Spent more time with the EQ and it's amazing. So far the Galaxie is beyond what I was looking for from an amp. It's a pretty simple 2 channel amp. The tone and clarity is unmatched. Both channels are brilliant on their own. The shared EQ has a learning curve. I always had major regret selling my 6545. This amp makes up for selling that amp and more. I'll be recording with this tone machine soon and can't wait..

Bit of a thread resurrect… maybe try a Signa Drive from CMATMODS or a BB Preamp with your Galaxie.
Cheers always
