Lads - I recently picked up a Nova combo from a Z bro here on the forum. I have been trying to discover how to use it - with gleeful exploration like a kid at Christmas! I usually find an amp and dial in my tone and then you can pull the knobs off the pots because I don't ever move them again. That is definitely NOT the case with this amp. Honestly - every knob has moved - a LOT! And there seems to be limitless great tones in this thing. I never thought I'd use it as a 2 channel amp, but my latest favorite settings has the "Volume" at 11:45 and the "Overdrive" at 8:00. That gets me unity volume between the 2 channels - and also gives me a different EQ without moving the other knobs. In other words - 2 different "amps" with just the footswitch, THEN season to taste with the pedals of your choice (particularly a good drive box) and you're really cooking! Seriously - how much fun! I've been punishing myself with the Overdrive channel and then switching to the Volume channel and it just soothes - so pretty and RICH. That Volume channel is like French Silk pie - sweet, smooth and heavy. I love it! And the OD Channel is brilliant. From just pushing to breakup at the low end to almost fuzz at the max (you know - like a good Tweed would!). In any event - it's really growing on me (and I've also learned in the past to give an amp time - for ME to acclimate to it and discover what IT can do - I've jumped the gun too many times on "Naw - this won't do"). And I haven't even mentioned the loop - I love it (now that I figured out how to run my pedals into it properly! On an unrelated note: Don't be afraid to flip the Line/Inst switch on your pedals if it sounds like there's a problem with your loop! ).
Enough word vomitting - anyone have any recommended settings they love or any other tips or tricks I should try wit this amp? Favorite drive pedals (outside of the footswitch! )? Speaker preferences? LMK!
Thanks!

I was really enjoying the clean channel last night and riding the volume on my guitar gave me a number of great tones. I’ve gotten to the point where I’ve accepted I don’t need anything fancy for overdrive with the Nova or Maz. Both amps are so great I just want to hear them pushed, not something that is going to shift the character of the amp.
Currently I’m getting dirt from the following: ODR mini, a clone of the Boss FA1 (this preamp is my always on, set pretty transparent), and Limelight from Electronic Audio Experiments. All are great with the Nova. I did move on my Sunface. I like the fuzz type tone I get by stacking my other pedals fine. Didn’t really like the massive change I got even with my guitar volume down.

For me, the OD is essentially an "always on" pedal Guitar volume and tone controls move around a lot.

I decided I would check in a year later to see what I think now that the honeymoon is over.
This is my favorite amp by a long shot, it’s not even close! The settings I use regularly now are quite different than what I started with. On the volume channel I usually run it around 11 o’clock to 1 o’clock. And on the overdrive channel I’m usually running that around 1 o’clock-ish give or take an hour or 2. Instead of trying to get unity volume with the channels themselves, I just decided to turn up the master loud enough so that it doesn’t make a difference where I have the other two knobs set, the volume is roughly the same! That’s right – I’m running it loud and proud and my God is it glorious!
I am still so thankful that Doc made this amp. I am grateful every single day when I plug-in and I hear my tone. Yep. That’s exactly what I mean. My tone - like doc designed this amp specifically for me. It is perfect! 😍
For those of you who might be on the fence - jump off of it! The nova is such an incredible little amp. I am in love!

The nova is such an incredible little amp. I am in love! I couldn't agree more. The Nova is an amp like no other. I had a combo years back and foolishly sold it, not because I didn't like it, but someone wanted it so bad and they didn't have a good amp and I felt bad, and he made me a really sweet offer. Well, it took me all of an hour to realize I'd made a huge mistake. I didn't have the heart to ask to undo the deal, after I woke up to a text about how happy he was and how grateful he was to me for selling it. I eventually came across a great deal on a head. The Nova is another one of the amps that is on my never sell list for sure.
