Dr. Z mentioned that he is using a Psvane Small Bottle 5881 in the MK II marked BT 5881. I have been looking and have not been able to find any Psvane 5881's except for the tall bottle. It looks like the Tung Sol 5881's are small bottle as well as the JJ 5881. Most all others look to be either medium or tall bottles. Does anyone have any small bottle suggestions? Or even better know of someone who sells Psvane small bottle 5881's?

I'll check with some of distributors and see what is available

TAD sells a mean small bottle 5881 called 5881WXT-R. I’ve had great luck with them.

I guess a better question would be can tall bottles be used instead of the short bottles? Just eyeballing it it looks like they won't be too tall. I found that TAD had data sheets for some of the tubes that included physical dimensions. The Tung Sol 5881 shows that the bottle is 2.96 inches while the TAD 5881WXT-R shows that the bottle is about 3.77 inches. I was not able to find data sheets for the Psvane tall bottle but I am guessing that it will be about 3.75 inches.

I wouldn't hesitate to try them. But like any tube, different manufacturer's tubes will sound a little different from one to another. But 5881 tubes share the same electrical specification so it won't hurt anything.
But it's not going to sound exactly like the tubes Doc uses. He picks them for a reason...

What’s the left tube? Psvane?

What’s the left tube? Psvane? Yes. They are the proprietary models made for Avi @ Boutique Amp Distributers that Avi is so kind to share with me. I really like them better then the Tung Sol 5881 , which is a great tube, but does have a bit more Tweed tone, a touch more hair on the notes. I liked the Psvane 5881 as it has a richer clean tone and reminded me of a big 6V6 , which covers the old Z 28 much better. Now Avi is going to sell these tubes , he has a complete line of tube models his company uses, but he is not currently setup to sell to the public yet. In the mean time TAD has a small bottle clear top 6L6 made by Psvane which is the identical tube with a red base. Amplified Parts online carries these TAD 6L6's . Z

Thanks, Doc. I just ordered a couple of pairs of these.
I haven't liked TAD tubes much in the past, maybe I got some bad ones. Trusting that these are different!
