I ordered a pair of these during Fender's 30% off accessories sale. I received them on Thursday and finally installed them today, along with a set of 1 meg pots. I can't get over how awesome they sound! Great with my Princeton Reverb clone and they really brought my Dr. Z amps to life (not that they needed the help)! The Cure sounds great, the Monza sounds like a dirty old blues amp, and the Z Wreck Jr sounds unbelievably rich and complex.
Not to try to sell you anything, but you gotta hear a set of these pickups through a Dr. Z amp!
The guitar is a 2013 MiM Classic '72 Thinline Tele that weighs under 6-1/2 pounds and is a lot of fun to play, especially now!

I love these pups as well. Killer! I've had a set since Fender released them. Same setup as you except with a Bigsby. Glad you like them! Not a single coil but not a humbucker. Thet have a little of both mixed together.

I've got a pair in a partscaster and I like them. They have taken me a while to get used to because they're not PAFs. But that's the point, right? Something different! The first time I played it through my Z28 was a truly special experience. That amp loves those pickups.

I've had this MIM '72 Thinline Tele that I bought new in '02. Always had a kind of a love/hate relationship with this guitar. Kept it around because it played so well but never sounded quite like I wanted it to. The original MIM WRHB's sounded a bit lifeless in the bridge and muddy in the neck positions. Heard some scuttlebutt saying that the MIJ versions were better. They were a bit brighter and sounded better overall to me but not quite there yet. I knew all along that they were basically regular HB's so I didn't mess with pot values. I gave a lot of thought to some aftermarket brands but as time went on I just figured I'd move this guitar along eventually.
I'd heard that Fender was doing the authentic reissues which piqued my curiosity. The plan was to hold off a bit until some reviews came in but one thing led to another and I never bought a pair until a too good to pass up deal came up on a brand new, never installed pair. I didn't feel like I needed the extra top end so I installed these along with an Emerson wiring harness with 500k pots. Sounds perfect now. It's not my "go to" for gigs but it definitely gets a lot of use for practice, rehearsals, and occasionally on gigs. I still prefer using my '52ri Tele and Anderson Strat on gigs for the most part.
The reissue WRHB's are very good. If I'm able to crank up my Stang Ray to at least 4 it's quite the match. Same with a Super Reverb. If you're looking for something a bit different, these pickups could get you there.

The first time I played it through my Z28 was a truly special experience. That amp loves those pickups. It must be nice having individual volume and tone controls for each pickup! I find that I need to turn the tone down a little on the bridge pickup compared to the neck pickup. My guitar originally had regular humbuckers that looked like WRHBs so this is a very different experience!

You're exactly right Don. I rarely have the bridge tone on 10. I think if this guitar only had 2 knobs then it'd be completely different.

So are they dual coil pickups? Are they noiseless like a regular humbucker? Sounds interesting as I love low wind humbuckers.

So are they dual coil pickups? Are they noiseless like a regular humbucker? Sounds interesting as I love low wind humbuckers. They're humbuckers designed by Seth Lover for Fender in the late '60s/early '70s. Rather than bar magnets, they have magnetic poles like a typical Fender pickup, except the poles are threaded CuNiFe (Copper, Nickel, iron) rod magnets. CuNiFe magnets are obsolete. I don't believe that anyone else is using them for anything.

They are like a revved up single coil without all the hum and/or a bright spanky humbucker without the midrange bark of pafs. If you really really pile on the gain, they get microphonic and can scream like a pig. But that's at pantera levels of grind. Not really for that. But if can control them, they actually do a good job at it.

I like it- I like my gear to be responsive.

it's funny that this thread popped up. I have a buddy who is a used guitar dealer ask me about these pickups too.
