I saw this in a post over at TGP for someone's Ghia. In all my time kicking around here and looking at used Z amps in different places, this is the first time I've seen a 12" alnico with a Z label on it. What do you know about these? Where they widely used? Are they close to a Blue? Anyone have one of these in something other than a Ghia? As you can tell, this has me curious.

Since that's a newer Ghia, I'm wondering if someone didn't peal the label off of the original speaker and stick it on this one. There is a little tear in the upper left side that looks like it could have been a starting point. Also, hard to see, but maybe a wrinkle on the lower left in the dark shadow. Looks like some remnants from a brake lite on the left side of the cab too. As to what speaker it is z or not, got me.

Looks like it may be a Wearhouse Guitar Speaker frame. They have used that white color on some models. Like Ridgeback said, with the bell removed.

Were you a detective in a previous life, or did you just stay in a Holiday inn express recently?

Dang you guys are good. The guy selling it says this is the way it was when he found it at Guitar Center. I knew I hadn’t seen one before but missed that the sticker might have been repurposed.

Update: The guy pulled it out and he believes it's a Weber and has a sticker with a code "P12Z". He's researching it some more, maybe it is a real deal Z alnico made by Weber?

The guy heard from the Z shop, this is the real deal. A Weber made 60s Oxford speaker for a short time for Dr Z. Jaguarguy (Mike) do you have one of these speakers in the muZeum?

I used to have one of those P12Z speakers; I ordered it with a Z 1x12 rear-ported cab that for my (former) green Ghia head in 1997. It was a cool speaker; VERY smooth, iirc. I ended up replacing it with a V30 because I liked it better with the Ghia.

I love, love, love the Z12 speaker with my Z28MKII. I actually reached out to DRZ and said, your fan base loves Alnico’s, and this speaker would be amazing as an Alnico Speaker. I could only image that this one killed.
Anybody has one of these laying around, I would buy it in a heartbeat.
