Hi y'all,
My former bass player just bought a 2000 MAZ-18 210 combo. He brought it over to my place last night for inspection, and I noticed something on the back panel I've never seen on a MAZ before. It has a pot on the back panel and a toggle switch of some sort right next to it. The knob, when turned up, seems to increase the input gain. I don't know what the switch does - we're afraid to flip it for fear we might let all the smoke out of the amplifier and cause it not to work anymore.
So, I guess I'm asking two questions:
1) What exactly are these unfamiliar creatures? 2) Did Z put these sorts of mods on the amps in those days, or is this something someone has added after the fact?
Thanks much, C

Did he get it off ebay back in April? Is it red? If so, check out the thread "Rockin' mod" from April 10th.
The short answer is, no, it's not a factory mod. Someone hacked it in.

That's the one he bought. I'll check out the thread you suggested and see if that's what he's got on there.
Thanks much, C

A bunch of us in this forum noticed that Maz for sale. We figured the mod was some kind of overdrive box installed. Without telling you what to do, it makes sense the toggle switch turns it off.
If I were you, I'd take the amp to a tech, have the tech contact the Dr. Z company, and have the mod removed.
You don't know what was installed, you don't know the quality of the installation, you don't know if the mod is damaging the amp and the mod could be the very thing that had it put up for sale.
