My first gig with it would’ve been the previous weekend when we were booked for a private party. But that gig got cancelled due to a septic issue at their house so…my beloved Z-28 was spared – whew! So the first gig with it was actually at a place we play quite frequently which ended up being a good thing. I know that room very well and am very used to how my other amps sound there. I played it through a 1x12 semi-open back with a WGS ET65 and it was RIGHTEOUS! One of the main reasons I got the Z-28 was because I wanted something I could turn up a little bit and get cooking. My other amps are 40-50W clean pedal platforms with no master volume. I love them but I always feel like they’re stuck in second gear due to venue size. Here’s where I ended up with the settings on the Z-28 that night: As you can see, I was able to get the amp in a really nice spot. I would’ve cranked the volume a little more but I do need some clean tones. Plus, the WRHBs in my partscaster are quite high output. Most of the night I was either running a Timmy (low-med gain) or a Gravity Bomb (clean boost) – both sounded incredible. I use an Angry Charlie for med-high gain and it sounded killer too. I couldn’t have been happier with the sounds I was getting from this amp. Really nice highs, excellent mids, and stunning lows. I now know what the rest of you have been raving about regarding these lows! I’ve never heard low-end like that before – perfection! This amp made my partscaster come alive in ways that none of my other amps have been able to do. Thank you to Dr. Z for making this amp. It’s a remarkable piece of gear that brought many smiles to my face that night and will bring many more in the future.
