I was debating about waiting for a new Z 28 mkii.. i’m just listening to the various demos, the Maz was just more my sound! Seems like the MAZ can do so many different tones. I paid a bit more for the used amp than I would have for the new Z 28 Mkii.
I am hoping that it will sound good through my cabs!? Large vertical 2x12 with WGS G12a alnico and a Weber D12 and 1x12 can with a WGS G12a alnico. Those cabs sound fantastic with my tweed and brown face Amps. Does anyone play MAZ Amps with alnico speakers?

Happy NAD. My (MKI) Maz 18 NR 1x12 combo came with a Blue and I never bonded with it. I played it through a Gold, an alnico Silver Bell, and Weber 12A150's with good results. From everything I've read, the Maz38 is quite a different animal from the 18 though so I'm not sure my experience helps much. Speakers are such a personal taste kind of thing.

Love my 38 with a gold 1x12. Also really like it with a greenback. There's a lot of range in the tone controls and it can kind of adapt to anything. Great amp, and congrats!

I strongly considered getting a Cel Gold. I love my WGS G12a (alnico) speakers and I paired one of those with the (designed for Derek Trucks) Weber D12 , that is ceramic but indeed sounds like an Alnico. I chose those partially because they are less sensitive (96-97db) and they sound good! My tweed deluxe is just overpowered in this situation.. even with 6L6s. I need more clean headroom

The 38 isn't a do everything amazing, but it does more great than any other amp I've ever touched. Before I got into Z's I tried Mesa thinking with all those knobs and sliders there much be a million good sounds in there. Nope, if you worked hard you could dial in a couple. But then they would disappear just between sessions without anything being adjusted. The Maz gives you a lot of usable sounds in various settings. Speakers will play a big roll in what you get. If you have a bunch try them all and see what you think. I was unimpressed when mine showed up with a Lead 80. I thought someone did this as an "upgrade". I found evidence that this was an early stock speaker for the the 38. After trying a bunch of speakers I realized this speaker is perfect for my amp. It's an earlier version that had the mkii update.

The Lead 80 ended up being perfect speaker? Wasn’t even close. I had an Austin Speaker Works KTS60, and a vintage rebuild of a Alnico silver bell (between a blue and a gold), and a good old G12H. They did their thing and sounded good, but the stock Lead 80 is really special in my amp.
