I keep reading about the combo and I'm sure it's as good as it's described! I also own a Z-Master that I love! I purchased a head and it's sitting on top of a Z convertible 1X12 cab (opened back) with a broken in Cream Back in it and I have to tell you any one thinking about head and not the combo it does sound Spectacular at least the way I have it setup! I don't gig at this age so factor that in?

I am planning on getting a Z-28 MK II head in the next year or so. I prefer heads since I can use the speaker cab that is grabbing my fancy at the moment. Currently I have been running both the Maz 38 NR MK II and my Z-Lux at the same time with the Maz running through a Z-Best cab and the Z-Lux running into my Dr. Z 1x12 convertible running with an open back. They sound really good together. Once I get a Z-28 I might need another cab. I wonder if anyone makes an ABCY switch?

I’ve got a head ordered… partly cause I prefer a 2x10… and partly because the EF86’s tend to be a tad fragile and go microphonic. Newer ones may be more stable.

With that Z-Master cab a Creamback and those 5881 tubes I believe its going to be killer. The 5881 power tubes were the same tubes I had in my Vibro Kings back in the day. I think this may be my dream amp.. I have no doubt about it the combo is going to be fantastic live. The Z-28 already is a good amp. The combo is just to unique to pass up. I was sold as soon as I heard 3D tone. I knew what the doc was talking about. I never been to the grand canyon either..

I've done one gig with mine so far and it's incredible. I had people remark about how good it sounds in the mix.

Where is everyone pre-ordering these from? I need to get my order in. Sweetwater is on back order until April. I know Humbucker sells them. I ordered mine from Matts music they only had 2 coming in. A head that was already sold and the combo I purchased. You may want to call around and see If any other dealers have any coming in. If you go to the Dr Z website he has a list of dealers there. I am not sure who else has them coming in but so far they are selling quickly.

My local dealer (Long & McQuade, or the Canadian Guitar Center) seems to have four (4) on order based on what I saw on screen when I put my deposit down about 1 1/2 weeks ago. I was the first to claim one.

I paid a 50% deposit on my Crook guitar that took just under a year to get that. Lol, hell, I’m probably saving money giving them the deposit as I won’t spend it on anything else 🤣

Awesome amp. I prefer the head so I can easily swap cabs. I have a first gen Z28 as well. I’ve gigged hard with the original since 2012. I jumped on the new version. The master volume made it a no brainer. I’ve been running them both ABY and getting some amazing tones - using a 212 for both. Now, here’s the down side. The original takes 4 ohm & 8 ohm speaker loads. The new MKII only takes 8 ohms. That’s a limitation I can live with but still a bummer. I’ve got a killer cab with two 8 ohm speakers but I reckon I’m screwed on that unless someone knows a way to make 2x8 =8.

I have three 2x10 cabs @4 ohm, but haven’t thought about using them. I have three really nice TT Alnico 12’s that are 8 ohm… so there I am.

You can get one of Todd’s “series” Y-cables and plug each Y in the 2 - 4 ohm cabs, and then the single end into the head for a total of 8 ohms. But you have to use a series cable.

I've got a head and I love it. Most of my amps are heads because I like to pair with different cabs and cut down on weight. I still gig pretty regularly so cutting down on weight is important for me.
Incredible amp.
