OK get your mind out of the gutter. Seriously - I had taken one of the 6V6s out of my Z28 to use in a Champ kit I put together. Well a couple weeks went by and I forgot that I only had the one power tube in there, fired it up, sounded fine actually. But then I remembered about the missing tube. I plugged it back in, fired it up, the 12AX7 and one of the power tubes didn't glow. I "tested" all the tubes in my Champ, all good. I searched this forum and googled. I was convinced I toasted a resistor or something 'cause of running it with one power tube. Then I saw it - the EF86 was half way out of the socket. I hadn't noticed that it didn't light 'cause of the rubber cover on it. I secured it, fired it back up and presto! So this was a long-winded way of saying check the little stuff first!

I wiggle my tube before every gig. Wait, are we still talking about vacuum tubes? Seriously though, I do wiggle the tubes before a gig because they can lose contact due to vibrations and jostling around in transportation. It is also a good idea to perform annual checkup/service on all gear. Something I never thought of until I had a technical issue at a gig many years ago.

That rubber cover comes in handy when your gig requires safe sets. But as Mr Verde pointed out, these are the types of issues that happen but will reveal to you another place where an issue could be.
