Loved it. I just know that amp sounds fantastic. That old Z28, is it yours? That is really special. I have a distinct memory of driving in a friends older brothers dark green z28 which looked like that and he was blasting old Black Sabbath on the 8 track. I'd never heard it before. Both the car and Sabbath really stuck with me all these years. We went smelt fishing.

Thanks Nick, but I think I could said " Basically " a few more times ....... Z Basic is part of what makes these amp designs so wonderful. So much versatility with 3 controls. “Make everything as simple as possible, but not simpler.” Albert Einstein. A good example: My friend and band mate finally got a band new Maz18mkII after I let him use mine. He was using a Masa with about 800 controls and it sounded meah.... I showed him pictures of the inside of his mark iv and the inside of a Maz. He gave it a shot and is blown away. His tone and even playing has improved! Thanks Doc and team!

Does anyone yet know which flavor of 5881s are in there? OK I was waiting for someone to ask. They are the Boutique Premium Tube model BT-5881. I started the MKII update years ago using the Tung-Sol 5881, but its availability long term is sketchy. The Tung-Sols sound nice , but a bit more growl and dirt great for Blues. But the Psvane built BT 5881 from Boutique has a nice crisp top end and punches a bit harder and stays slightly cleaner. To my ear much closer to a good sounding 6V6 , which is the point of the Z 28 MKII. Supply is great and they are very well built tubes. This manufacture builds all the tubes for German distributer The Tube Amp Doctor , or TAD. Also for years supplied the tube audio market with great tubes. Avi at BAD isn't set up yet for direct tube sales , but will be in future. During the big tube shortage , Avi was my Guardian angel and supplied me tubes that I had trouble getting from Russian suppliers. I fell in love with his EL 34, EL 84 , and of course the 5881. Z

Z Thanks, Doc. You guided me to the Tung-Sol 5881s for my Z-Lux and as you mentioned, supply is sketchy (I just paid more than double for a new set). Consequently, I've been wondering about a potential substitute. I know this is a Z-28 thread (looking forward to checking one out!), but would you recommend a set of the BT-5881s in a Z-Lux? Thanks for doing what you do!!

DRZ, Regarding the head cab, to date we only have the front of amp pic. Sounds like the Z28 is now housed in a Maz sized chassis and Maz head cab? Top vent on the head cab? One could swap a Maz and the Z28 chassis between head cabs? Thanks Jerry
