It was asked but not answered. Can larger octals be run in the Zplus? The cathode bias would emply so, but not sure about the draw. I run 6L6’s for a bigger tone (not so much volume) in Champs regularly. Just thought it worth checking here first. Anyone try it. Doc? Thoughts?

If the PT can handle the draw, you'd have to change the cathode resistor(s) for the power tubes. Also, the output impedance would change (I won't say which way, because I don't remember and don't want to give bad advice).

Yep… built a Princeton Reverb with 6L6’s… so have the conversion down. 6V6’s draw half of what a 6L6 does, so one will work, just not sure about the PT or circuit.

6V6’s are sweeter sounding. I’m thinking that your giving up the sweetness of the 6V6 for some extra girth. I like 6V6’s. I had Deluxe Reverbs before switching to Dr. Z amps in 2005. The Z Lux is a wonderful example of 6V6 goodness. As always YMMV.

I run them in both of my champs, and as stated above, built a Princeton Reverb specifically for bigger sounding tubes.

Anything else, is not what you want.

I'm still dreaming of a dual parallel single-ended KT-66 amp with the baxandal tone stack.
