I am confused about the power tubes for the cure. I was checking a couple of sets I had ordered a while back and noticed they came with 6V6's. I was looking at Doc's website on tube choices for the cure and noticed 5881's are listed. What is up? Are these two tubes interchangeable in the cure? I have not been paying attention and am confused. Hope I did not order wrong tubes!

If your Cure has 6v6 in it, you need 6V6s. The latest Cures have under gone an update and have the new Power tubes for more headroom.

Check out Doc's post about tubes in the Cure here: ztalk.proboards.com/post/961086/thread...and here (in that same thread, just a little lower down): ztalk.proboards.com/post/961137/threadI'm learning something here, too. It seems that Doc switched the amp from being based on 6V6 (as it originally came out) to now being based on 5881 power tubes. I trust his ears, though--and he says he likes it--so I guess it's like "Cure version 1.2?"

Thanks for the info. How big a deal to make the change Doc suggests?

Thanks for the info. How big a deal to make the change Doc suggests? It's not a big deal, but should be done by a tech if you're not experienced. Dr. Z outlines it in a post on the forum.
I'm happy with my Cure, and could do the modification myself, but won't be putting 5881s in it.

Yeah I think I will leave mine stock with the 6V6's--really like the way it sounds stock.
