Hi folks! New to the forum and Z-World in general. I'm looking for new amplification, and was looking on the Z site and drawn to the Maz 18 Jr. as the "ultimate Strat amp". My Musicman Silhouette Special with Wagner (WCR) SRs is my ultimate Strat; I'm looking for the right Z to make it whole. I'm playing a wide range of material, from a classic rock thing to a straightahead country thing. The first Z I've tried is the Route 66, which was amazing, and has opened my ears to the Z sound. I love the simplicity of the Z amps, and as a devout pedal user think I can get everything I need from one of these amps. My 'board has Xotic RC and BB, Diamond opto compressor, a Boss CE2 chorus, and a Diamond Memory Lane delay, so I'll be needing an FX loop. I'm having trouble finding Z's to try in person here in the Toronto area, so would welcome any input you folks might have to narrow down my search. Couldn't decide where to post this under, so started with the amp mentioned as "the" Strat amp. Can you help a poor brother on his tonequest? Thanks in advance, and looking forward to hearing your input!-Eric

You've got a great list of pedals. You can't go wrong with a Maz 18 or 38. The 18 is reportedly the more aggressive amp and with less power obviously has less clean headroom. They are both available with an effects loop. The Stangray is a serious contender. It all depends on what you ultimately want an amp to sound like. You might want to mention what you think are some good sounding amps and then the guys can be more focused in recommendations. Spend time reading the different amp threads, that'll help too.

Rocker--there are lots of sound video clips scattered throughout the forum for different Z amps. That's the good news. The bad news is that once you hear them you will want them. All. I've owned three Z's, a Ghia combo, KT45 head, and Maz Jr combo w/reverb. I sold the first two. I posted in an earlier thread what I think of the Jr as a Strat amp...though I yearn for a Z28 as well. What I like about the Jr is that you can turn the cut knob off and set the rest of the EQ like a traditional Fender and get a Fender-y sound. or, you can use the cut and dial in the Vox sound. Using the master you can push it toward a Marshall-ey sound. It's a very versatile amp. I don't think reverb is necessary because there is so much harmonic content to the sound. If I were to start over, I would get a NR head rather than the combo. Best of luck.

Hey Rocker,
Keep in mind that Long and McQuade are Z authorized dealers around Toronto and allow a 30 day trial period for demo purposes...
