For a guy that claims not to be a pedal guy I sure buy a lot of them! A few days ago a new Free the Tone Fire Mist OD showed up here. I'm really impressed with it. I'm using it with a clean high headroom F style amp. What strikes me the most is the range of it. I bought it because I liked the higher gain sounds like at the beginning of the linked video. And I do. But the lower drive settings are totally excellent! With the drive anywhere from off to 9:00 it add that little bit of drive that is very pick dynamic. This is probably a pedal cliche, but it sounds just like the amp itself does when it's cranked up a little more, without actually having to crank it up.
From around 9:00 and up it slowly adds more and more drive. Even with the drive set to full, which is quite a bit of gain, it sounds natural and is surprisingly quiet. Now I'm looking at some of their other pedals.... and so it begins.

Yeah, I bought their Future Factory modulated double delay a few weeks ago. I’ve only scratched the surface with it but it’s a well thought out pedal. Looks complicated but it’s really not.
I just looked at this pedal. Cool idea as there seems to be a bit of the old ‘“audiophile” mentality on behalf of the designer. Love that he had custom knobs designed and manufactured. My pedal dealers sells this brand but only carries the delay-type offerings. I should see if he’ll bring in one of these.

Usually I find an OD to sound good at one particular thing. The Fire Mist does that light OD or clean boost and sounds excellent wherever the drive is set. From off to full. Whatever he is doing with the circuit it's amazingly quiet when gained up to full. I do really like the construction. I use it with a battery so I really like having a no tools trap door. I popped the pedal open to have a look see. It seems really well made. Mini pots and footswitch mounted to the chassis, a board with larger than normal components and cloth covered flying wire leads to the I/O jacks. Seems top notch. I attached a pic. I'm not sure what those clear gum drop looking things are, but they sound awesome lol. I think I might grab the Red Jasper V2 OD. It's due at the end of the month.

Nicholas, I'm pretty sure the "Gum Drop" looking things on the right are LEDs. They're sometimes used as clipping diodes in pedals instead of regular diodes.
That's a great tone!

One thing I will say...what a solid piece of kit! It's like a little brick! Call me silly, but I like it when a pedal is a little heavy and solid but still in a smallish footprint. Later tonight I'll give it a run in front of my Tiny Terror.

I really can't get over how great it sounds with the gain all the way off, or all the way up! The only down side I can find is I'm not sure whether to use it as a low gain bump, or a british blues crunch box, or a liquid lead type thing. Not a bad problem to have tho!
