I’ve always been a rock and blues rock player however, for the past year I have been taking jazz guitar lessons once a week and really enjoying it. Eventually I’d like to be good enough to sit in for some standards. I’ve been using my z plus for lessons and playing at home, but I’ve been thinking of getting a Z lux for a little more low end feel and also more clean volume. I could also use it with my dad rock cover band. Anyway, does anyone have experience with using the Z lux for straight ahead jazz? If so, how do you like it, especially compared to other amps you have used for jazz. And lastly, I’m torn between the combo and head so feel free to comment on which you prefer and why.
Thanks.

Z-Lux is based on the sound of a blackface Fender, which those have been used probably on millions of jazz recordings and live gigs. I had a Z-Lux head. I prefer heads because they keep the tubes away from the speakers and reduce or eliminate tube rattle.
If it were me, I'd get an EZG-50. I had both and preferred the EZG. Although, if you're looking at a Z-Lux MKII, I have not played through one of those and understand the upgrades help it sound even better.

I have an original Lux and a MKII and while I don’t play finger contorting jazz chords and licks, I’d have a hard time believing it wouldn’t be the perfect jazz amp. Plenty punchy and clean, sounds awesome clean with humbuckers in the neck position and is really versatile with the master volume. Outside of doom metal or djent, it is pretty much the perfect amp. And with the right pedals, the afore mentioned are totally doable.

Maybe I could revisit the Z-Lux in the MKII...

So I went ahead and purchased a new Z lux combo from guitar sanctuary, and yes it can definitely do Jazz. In fact, it can do just about anything! It’s an incredible amp. So I was doing a zoom lesson with my jazz guitar instructor, and I didn’t tell him I was playing through the Z lux, and after working through the tune impressions he told me that of all his jazz students, I had the best tone! This is coming from a serious professional jazz guitarist that has played it all. I’d like to take credit for it with my playing, but it was all the amp. I’m working on getting some videos made of me doing a jazz tune with it. I just ordered an audio interface and now need to figure out how I can do some videos like Adam. I still need to post the new Db4 I got last month as well. Yes, I have a problem!
