Hi, if you have a power tube section with kt66s biased on the hotter side. Lets say they've been there for two years. Will revising the bias to make them cooler for prolongness affect the way the amp sound more noticeably?
Just curious.

If the ma is dropped well below the recommended operating range you may get a cold, sterile sound. If you just drop it to, say, the middle of a recommended range the difference may be negligible. I can’t say for certain as I’ve ever tried it but I think the theory is sound. I’m sure Doc will chime in here.

That would be thoughts as well, Keith. As long as you are within a recommended range, you would probably have to have golden ears to tell much of a tonal difference. You would probably notice it more in your fingers than in your ears. That's my thoughts anyway.

I tried my 6545 with the tubes (EL34) biased at 70% then moved down to 60%. I really liked the way the tone at 60% better. What I noticed was the harshness in the high end was decreased and seemed more sweet/musical. Of course this is my perception and may not be true for all applications.
I used a Weber Bias Rite for helping set the bias accurately.
I have done the same thing with my KT66 based Germino and found similar results.
Hope that helps in some way.

And it all has to do with whether you are running the output tubes clean or pushing them into clipping.

And it all has to do with whether you are running the output tubes clean or pushing them into clipping. That's precisely my confusion. I play my antidote WITH A BRAKE LITE on modern setting and my volume is around 11 O CLOCK and the high vol around 8-9 O CLOCK. I don't quite know if that's pushing the power amp much, but my clean tone is edge of brake up. That's where I live.

So, to me, you are not pushing it too hard. I bet your amp sounds really good.
