Hey guys, new member here, longtime Z enthusiast. So I just received a new MAZ Jr that was ordered a few months back and it has a Greenback in it. Is this the standard speaker for this amp? I used to have a Senior and it had a gold label G12H, I guess I just figured the speaker would be the same for the Jr. Anybody know? Thanks

As far as I know, they don't come stock with a greenback. Should normally be a G12H30. (somebody else in this forum may know for sure)

I think they like to mix it up every now and then. Mine wasn't special order. It just happened to be in stock at Junior's Music in Connecticut. Mine has a Greenback in it.

Well, I got an answer on this from Brent, the sales manager at DR Z. Seems they've been tweaking the Jr's lately and have sent some out with Greenbacks and some with Vintage 30's.

Ive allways been a fan of the vintage 30 speaker. If your useing singlecoils, I think the vintage 30 is going to be too bright. The stock speaker is wonderful, and sounds great. If you really want to make a change, try an alnico speaker such as a Weber . Your really pushin the limits with a celestion blue as there only rated 15 watts. ...I gotta say...the maz sounds great right out of the box.Im hard pressed to change a single thing. I read here, where guys are swapping tubes, and speakers, and this and that, but the maz will dance around any amp right out of the box.We, as guitarists, tend to get a tad anal about tone. But...if it aint broke...dont fix it. thats what I say. Thers also another term I use "custom ugly" it applys to cars mostly but still holds merrit here. thats when someone customizes something over and over, untill it is patheticly ugly. We all agree that changeing or moddifying a Z amps electronics would be blasphemy....nuff said. Im not accusing you of anything..Im just trying to prove the point that Z amps are a work of art, and I wouldnt draw a mustashe on a Picasso. Chip

You hit on something about cars that I hate. Seems people accessorize their vintage cars to death. The car might have started off as Grandad's cheap stripper and these guys go nuts with the continental kits, floodlights, windshield visors ad nauseum. It's a free country and of course a restored car isn't the same as original anyway but it's still a shame.
