i've been playing nothing but jazz since about september, and the carmen ghia has proven to be a fantastic jazz amp with both my gibson 335 and this gem. my mic does not do this guitar and amp the justice they deserve, but it def does sound better on decent speakers. this is all the pickup's signal (the mic was pointed 180* away from the guitar, so no acoustic tone bleeding in)...i can't express how great of a pickup the dearmond rhythm chief is. back in my college days i played every floater that was out there except these (i hated the way they looked)...after my experience with one now? imo there is no better archtop pickup.
guild artist award (with roundwound thomastik infeld 13's) > mooer digital reverb > strymon deco (boost not engaged) > carmen ghia (air brake on 2, V 10:30 T 2:00)

Enjoyed it, and I also have been playing with these tones with my Z-28. Another positive is the absolute lack of noise these amps have. It creates a blank canvas for the notes to float out of. That’s a beautiful guitar by the way!

That’s a beautiful guitar by the way! I’ve had it six weeks and I can’t put it down. It’s one of the best guitars I’ve ever played, no hyperbole. I know this isn’t the place to say this but… /looks left //looks right It really doesn’t need an amp at all. It’s an acoustic cannon.

Do you enjoy playing with the 13's? Not everyone has hands like Tal Farlow. Wouldn't it be easier to play with a lighter gauge? Just curious.

Just curious. any flubs are from my work-in-progress technique and just starting this arrangement a couple days ago, not the string gauge. but there are a couple fundamental things at play... -there's no bending in traditional jazz, so if you're not bending you really don't notice that much difference in terms of fatigue or quality of play with 13+'s...if anything, when im playing jazz i prefer heavy strings to keep me from even attempting to bend. -archtops sound better acoustically with beefier strings...obviously not all string gauges are equivalent, but with this guild there's been a noticeable volume and EQ difference when i've gone between 12's and 13's. TI and pyramid 13's seem to be the sweet spot. in my experience/opinion...both w archtops and playing bass...heavier gauges and increased stiffness typically translate into an easier time playing fast since the string moves less. obviously there are significant trade offs (more w guitar than bass), but i prefer the experience of playing heavier strings in general.

Just curious. this was from the first day i had the guitar and was just messing around playing BS, but you can tell the heavy strings arent really that big of an impediment in terms of speed or ease of play. that slop and those bad note choices still wouldve been there with 9's or 15's. start at 0:35 if video doesnt queue.

to paraphrase an old Steve Martin bit: "I'd do anything to be able to play like that ... except, of course, practice a lot and learn theory."
Nice job. Loved that tone.

Don't ever apologize for 'slop' or 'bad note choices'. Perfect or not, it's fantastic. It's a joy to listen to. Credit needs to be given to you (or anybody) who puts themselves out there to post these demos/clips. Lol, you are miles ahead of most people watching this and we they are envious
