I put a 5U4 in but it's my only one. I love the sound.
Just making sure I could put a GZ34 in if the existing rectifier were to blow and not damage the amp for an hour or two.
Obviously re-tube and bias after the show....
Cheers

I wouldn't do it without making sure ahead of time that the bias will be acceptable and the tubes being used will be okay with the extra voltage (20V?).

I normally use tube rectifiers, but have a couple Weber Copper Caps on hand, in case a tube goes during a gig. Although if I remember correctly, they should not be used with Maz amps for some reason.

Hmm, so the bias could be off enough to blow the tubes. Groove Tubes KT66. Would anything in the amp be at risk? If the tubes only might be at risk I could live with that, but not components of the amp itself.
If there is a risk, then would getting any functioning 5U4 tube be a suitable replacement WRT to safety?

I don't know the amp you're using, but besides the bias concern, if the tubes and filter caps are near their voltage handling limits with the 5U4, they could go over with a 5AR4. 5U4s are inexpensive and appear to be readily available, so I'd stick with that.

Copper Caps (or any solid state replacements) should not be used with Maz amps 2 EL84 tubes. I was told this when I 1st had my Maz 18 but had a Copper Cap for my Maz 38 just in case a recto blew..

It's a Route 66. (Hence the post here )
I've ordered a backup 5u4 for under $15 on Reverb.

I caught that re the 66, but I was more commenting on where not to use SS rectifiers in Z amps in case a reader had considered it.
