In a recent car ride (My son Joshua and I will typically listen to Spotify and I'll call out a song or 2 from my past) I called out an old Chicgo tune 25 or 6 to 4. We both enjoyed it. A few days later we were in the car again and that song came up on his play list. He really liked it. Well, yesterday I was working in my shop and pulled up the album Chicago II. Wow, what a great album. Great writing, excellent musicians. I can't stop listening to it. I had grown so weary of the pop music from Peter Centera that I had completely moved on from anything related to him but wow, that older stuff is really great. back to work! Todd

That’s my favorite Chicago album and the one that hooked me on the band in 1970 as a youngster. A couple years later I took up bass (after playing guitar for a couple years) and used that record a lot to learn what Cetera was doing in those great tracks.

I've been a Chicago\CTA admirer for many years, especially the early stuff. I saw them live one time, the week before I shipped out to boot camp. Memorable on several levels.

My oldest brother played sax in a 10 piece horn band. My middle brother also played sax in smaller bands. So, their music influenced little old me. They provided good influences. 😀 Great songs and playing. Plus, the productions had a certain sound. It all takes you back and Makes You Smile (pun intended). 😎

Great choice Todd! I'm a big fan of both CTA and Chicago II. My cousin played in CTA for a while. He determined they weren't going anywhere so he left and went to California to seek greener pastures. Soon after they began getting noticed and the rest is history. He also played inn an early version of Bob Seger System - same story - he decided they weren't going anywhere and left them. They were playing Jr. HS and HS gigs at the time. I lived across the street from one of the schools they played at. They came to my house to change into their "outfits" for the gig. Seger was dating my other cousin - her kids still call him "Uncle Bob".
Here's one of my favorites. I miss Terry Kath - sad story there!

Me too! Except for the Hammond and Rhodes. Those instruments are just magic in the room. As for the Kath clip, what a force of nature he was. His passion, energy and enthusiasm there is blatant and profound. Also love everyone grabbing whatever percussion instrument was lying around and contributing to the whole thing.

This will add a bit (a LOT) of depth to what they did. I saw them on their opening tour with Jimi - (in '71 I think) They played their whole 1st album and them some. This is worth the watch to see Ricks facial expressions!

Cetera’s bass playing on the first 5 albums is monstrous! he was an extremely underrated bass player.
