Rehearsal was cancelled so instead of cranking up my Jetta I’m home, daydreaming about tones and planning ways to spend money that I don’t have.
First off, I’m wondering if anyone has had experience with custom combo cabs for Dr Z amps. I would love to have one built that’s approximately the dimensions of the standard LT combo that will accommodate a 15” speaker. Long story short; I used to run an Ampeg Gemini I that was modified for a 15” JBL and I’m wondering if I can get some of that back by converting the Jetta to a 15” combo.
Next up, I’m starting to think about a complementary amp to run with the Jetta as the Dry amp in a Wet/Dry set up. I have been looking at the Carmen Ghia and wondering if it would be a good match tone wise. I don’t have a Z dealer near me so unfortunately don’t have the opportunity to play one. Anyone out there that has played both the Jetta and CG and can speak to their tonal difference and how well they would sound together? I would be running boost/overdrive pedals to the CG and then splitting the signal and running all modulation and time based effects to the Jetta.
Sorry for the long post. Long weekend + no rock and roll = too much thinking about new amps!

I can respond to the 15" question...I took the front baffle off my Z 1x12 cab and made a 15" baffle for an Altec Lansing 418B speaker. It worked out great, the 418B is a great guitar speaker and sounds really good. You may be able to do the same to the combo cab.

Just out of curiosity, which cab is it(wondering about dimension), and which amps have you been enjoying with the 15”? I assume there’s enough room in the Jetta’s studio cab to modify the baffle, but wonder if a slightly larger cab might be advantageous in this situation.

My 1x12 is 19 ½” H, 22 ¾” W, 10 ¼” D. The Jetta is 19 ¼” H, 19 ½” W, 10 ½ ” D.
You'll have to do some measuring to make sure the speaker would clear the amp chassis & components in the Jetta. A bigger cab is going to make a difference for sure, but each combination of cab and speaker will sound different.
It works great with all my amps; it just responds differently. I have baffles that are cut for 1x15, 1x12, and 2x10 configurations, so it makes my Z cab super versatile.

1 x 15 cab or combo for the Jetta could be cool

I have a Jetta Combo & I have an EVM15L loaded in a 115 cab used primarily with a Fuchs ODS. I've plugged the Jetta into the 115 cab and it sounds great; however, the beauty of the Jetta is its simplicity - light combo, sounds great loud or quiet w pedals, 3 knobs. two guitars, a gain and delay pedal, and the Jetta is one easy trip. then, it's back to playing.
