I normally don't use pedals in front of the CAZ. (Have a Flint in the loop.) I back off the guitar volume to clean up, which this amp does beautifully. I decided to stick a compressor in front to see if it generated more sustain for clean sounds. No surprise, it does, and it sounded really good, adding a polish to the notes. And I was able to coax "clean feedback" out of the rig once the level control was up high enough. (With the guitar I was using this was about 9:30 to 10:00.)
I did blend some of the uneffected guitar signal back in so notes weren't super squashed.
Try it and let me know what you think.

I saw a rig rundown with Paul Gilbert once where he was running into a pretty dirty Marshall, stepped the compressor with the level down, and it was really quite convincing. I'll try it one of these days. FWIW, I've been through a bunch of compressors over the years and it always feels like a fight with them somehow. Last one I got was one of the revival ones and I can get along with that one.

Adam, I use a Cali76 from Origin Effects. Is that what was implied by "one of the revival ones" in your post? (Origin makes Revival Drives too.)
It's the first compressor I've really gotten along with since it's so flexible. Had a 70s block logo Dyna Comp, which did the squash thing well. Sold it to help fund the Cali.
I hope you try it as I'd like to hear your opinion.

That's really interesting, Mike...I never would have thought of using a compressor in front of a gained up amp. I've never gotten along with compressors either, but I do have an Ibanez CS-9 and a Boss.

Yes Mike, that's what I meant. It's the dual one though. Probably sounds about the same, or has that same timbre.
