I’ve been jamming on the Jetta at home, guitar straight in around 90dB. I haven’t had the chance to get it in a band mix, and I haven’t even wanted to get pedals in front of it yet. I’ve been really enjoying the tone. It’s another home run from the Doctor! It has a unique voice from my other Zs.
I have a suggestion for the Tone Control setting. Max that thing out! When I dime it, I notice the amp really opens up. Apart from the obvious of getting a bit more high end, it also seems to increase overdrive while slightly changing the structure of the gain and touch responsiveness. The amp becomes more dynamic and seems to sing more on the trail of the notes. Next, use the Volume Control to set the frequency range. Turn up for more low end and down for more highs. It still effects the amount of drive, but not as much as you might think. Finally, use the Master Control to set the overall volume. Just tonal bliss at that point! It begs the question, what if the tone control components were completely removed from the circuit? Would it open up even MORE?!?
Anyone else run the Jetta controls like this? If so, please let me know your thoughts!

Awesome! Yeah, it's a great little amp!
I did try that. However, I found it gets a little dark for me with the volume all the way up. Where do you run the master? What speaker are you using?

MV is set to whatever loudness or venue require for stage volume. Speakers stock, I did think about possible changes when I first got the Jetta until I got an opportunity to really work with the amp. I’ve noticed many guys here have gone through a number of speaker changes and returned to stock, I think the doctor got it right!

I'm digging the G12H30 as well! I'm sure I'll eventually try a few other speakers in extension cabs for fun. However, I don't think the stock driver will ever leave the combo. Thanks for the feedback!

Jetta tone control is definitely a unique one! The way you describe the tone and volume are pretty spot on with the way I hear em. I use mine with a pedal board, vol 11a, tone straight up and master as needed, sounds killer.
When I go straight in it sounds great everywhere on the volume control and I do generally crank up the tone control when after more grind. Luv my Jetta.

It will be the first time in a band mix and with effects for the Jetta. I'll start off with those settings! Thanks for the input!

Ima spend some time with that setting! It was a little dark for my taste when I tried it with Fenders CuNiFe Wide Ranges in a thinline. But maybe I'll try it next with a traditional snappy tele. Oh great, now I've got to get a Gold! Lol! I have a Gold 10 I really like. I assume you're using the 12 Gold?

You may find the Gold to be a bit darker than stock ..

You may find the Gold to be a bit darker than stock .. I always associate the Gold with "chime" and a very present top end. You think is got less up top than the G12H30?

I assume you're using the 12 Gold? yes, the reference was to the 12 A.Gold (haven't tried the 10) it has some similarities to the g12h30ann but is smoother, compressed, and the top end is not as pronounced but it chimes (like: less treble but bumped presence) surprised to hear "dark" in reference to the Fender CuNiFe p'ups - I always thought they were pretty bright; nevertheless, sounds like a fun sonic adventure ahead

Jones, thanks for the explanation of the Gold. Makes a lot of sense!
I shouldn't say dark. When I max the volume, it more just takes away the top end snap that I like to hear. When I put the volume back down to noonish, the snap comes right back.
You are correct. The CuNiFe are definitely on the brighter side of humbuckers. Great pups!

I'm the same; plugged straight in with a bit of reverb or delay or both (Strymon) in the loop.
Master - generally between 1:30 to 3:00
Tone - between 1:30 to 4:00
Volume - 11:00 to 2:00
My observation with tone is the same - turn it up for more grind and treble/presence/bite; Volume - past 2:00 I find it gets darker, less articulate and less bite

It's really amazing the huge range of volumes, tones, and responses available with just a three control layout! Yesterday, I was running the volume round 9:00, tone and mater about 4:00. I was getting some really great GREAT spanky clean stuff. I love this little amp!

My Jetta has quickly become my main gigging amp. It sounds nice at home at low volumes. It's a beast on stage cranked. There's no comparison between the two settings. This amp, like many Dr. Z's, was made for the stage!

I agree! I've had it at a few rehearsals and it sounded dynamic and full and very responsive. Higher volumes just feel better. It's much more interactive when you have the amp breathing and moving air. However, it can still pull off the low volumes admirably. You still have plenty of character and fullness.
The Jetta truly does seem to allow the character of the guitar, pedals, and playing to come through at any volume.

I tried running the jetta head with a c-gold which is one of my favorite speakers. I have a celestion 12H-30 laying around and thought I would try that. I will have to say I like the 12H better. My tele is a bit bright and this speaker seemed to have tame the highs a bit. The gold sounds great, but I think I am going to stay with the 12H for now. Cannot lose with either speaker.

I am running mine with mv maxed, tone around noon, and volume according to venue. Really like the headroom available on the Jetta. I had a Cure that I really liked for home use, but when I gigged it, it was limited on clean headroom for my needs. Cure is a great amp, but I am finding the Jetta a bit more useful for my gigging needs. My .02 Jester
