This was hanging around and thought I'd share it before I lose it. Playing pretty lame, backing might even be more lame. Anyway, I thought it was an honest representation tone wise for some of those clean old fender tones in the amp and might be good sample for someone wondering what the amp sounds like. Single cheap ribbon mic about 9" in front of a V30 in a 4x12. 4x12 doesn't matter, would sound the same with a v30 in a Z 1x12. No compression or eq, but I added a little more verb to the lead track. I feel like that mic setup is a pretty true representation of what the amp sounds like in the room.

People need to stop posing clips and comments with the EZG. Might be my greatest amp selling remorse. I NEVER would have thought about pairing it with a Vintage 30. Your playing and tone are just great! You wouldn't happen to know what year your Vintage 30's are, do you? I have several and they all sound very different, depending on when they were made. This was a terrific video. The hat was the icing on the cake!

You could always watch out for another one. I just noticed I screwed up on the V30 reference. I don't know how old the cab is, it's a 1960av (Marshall design v30's) I picked up for cheap. BUT, I pulled the v30 out where that mic is and put it in a Z 1x12 and replaced it with the lowly G12-75. Just to confound the issue more. V30's - in general I think they work great with a clean amp. Maybe to your point though, I have another Trace Elliot 4x12 with V30's that as far as everything I can tell about that cab is exactly the same dimensions and wood as the Marshall 1960av, and they sound radically different. The trace having less low end and a ton more highs. It's possible the back panel is different (don't remember exactly), but the trace "might" be birch and the Marshall has the pressed fiberboard back panel. The trace doesn't have the brace in the middle which joins the baffle side to the rear panel, and "I think" that creates phase problems which might explain the low end difference. The brightness issue, maybe that is the difference between the Celestion V30 and the Marshall V30, but I don't know if that's just branding or they really changed something in it. Bottom line, that Marshall cab sounds way better than the Trace cab, even after I funked it up with the g12t-75. Maybe I'll try a test with that amp and that cab again with the different speakers. I'm kind of curious now.

Wow, nice playing Adam. I wonder how my strat would sound through that rig ? That was the perfect strat neck pickup sound. Just beautiful.

I wonder how my strat would sound through that rig ? That was the perfect strat neck pickup sound. Just beautiful. I used the neck/middle position for the whole thing on both guitars. That Strat is from '83 and is a 62 reissue (stock). Compared to my other Strats, I'd describe it as kind of warm on the low end and pretty spikey or pokey on the higher strings. I'd call it a good Strat, but nothing really special about it. A lot of that (or those) sound is how you play the guitar. In general, I'm playing really light and using my fingers to pick a lot. Playing harder on the solos, quite a bit louder, and nothing is raising the volume like a pedal, volume control or fader. A couple things that I didn't pick right sound pretty nasty, but it's not the amp or guitar at fault, it's me. Basically the amp sounds liked I hope it would which I'd call a great old Fender. I might also add that I talked to Z about it once and he said he fixed tons of Super's back in the day, and "1 in 10 was a good one".

That's the truth, I've owned three Super Reverbs and the one I've got now is the best of them.
