I just have to address the too dark claims I read on many occasions about the Route 66. Yes, it is on the dark side. I added a 3-way bright switch to mine and I can get all the chime and sparkle I could ever ask out of any amp. The middle position is 100% bone stock, down adds a 100pf bright cap and up adds a 180pf cap. That little switch expands the versatility of the amp so much or you can leave it stock if you choose. It's a very easy and completely reversible mod. I hope this helps some people concerned that it's too dark. I can pretty much pull beautiful huge Fender cleans out of mine. The 66 is a wonderful amp even at lower volumes. An attenuator is your friend if you want to open it up, but wow, what a sound.

I remember playing through one and just thinking it was rich and full, but that’s a great idea to just tweak it for a certain guitar in use without putting a pedal on the floor or going crazy with speaker changing.
