After much thought about which Z to get, (and some sound advise from Brent Ferguson at Z amplification) thanks again Brent, I just ordered my First Z amp.
It is a Maz18 Jr nr head, black tolex!!!! 8 days ago I played on a Maz 18 and 38. I still have a hard time expressing that moment in time. I have never heard or thought an amp could sound so good!! As I was playing some one else came in and noodle on the mini Z. Like I really needed any more convincing, if Dr Z can make a 5 watt amp sound that fantastic with just one knob, plus powerful, he must know something about amps but more importantly he is sharing it with us.
Marshall, Fender, Roland and whatever else sound like mere fisher price toys!!! They ain't what they use to be. I have been on a high carb no tone diet for way too long. Z amps will put muscle on them there bones!!!
If your tired of playing in the past, and on what use to be good, play a Z amp and write your own future. Making history is just a Z amp away!!!! (every guitarist needs his Zzzzz)
Thank You Dr Z!!!!! John.

You've made a great choice! I've had my Maz 18 Jr for a couple of weeks and I can't stop playing it! The blurb " this amp will remind you why you wanted to play guitar in the first place "is so true with this amp. Absolutely great tone. I'm putting my Marshall JCM 2000 into storage, too loud and lacks the tone of my 70's Mk 11. Looking forward to gigging with the Maz!

Hi!! Thanks!!! I too have a Marshall JCM 2000 tsl. 100 watts is just too much. I never could get past one nor get the benefit of its name sake. I was thinking of using an antenuator and thats when I got to play the Maz.

Congratulations John, i know your going to love the MAZ Jr . Its an extremely versatile amp full of tone.. tone.. tone.. I have been playing mine during lunch hours and every chance i got this week, without alienating the neighbors in the process. Still can't believe the huge sound and the window rattling bottom end that this 18 watter creates. The highs are also very pleasent... not painful in the least. Gone are the days of constant tweaking in an attempt to get the harshness out of the sound. It pretty easy to get some moderate tube distortion at fairly low volumes too. I'd love to get this in a larger room and open it up for the full experience. Sometime soon I hope. Good luck with Jr and keep us posted.

I still have a hard time expressing that moment in time. This is the one place where you don't even have to try -- we know the feeling. And guess what? It's gonna keep getting better.

Believe me, this is only the begining....for the addictive qualities these amps make heroin seem safe!(not condoning heroin use here).......hmmmm come to think of it, heroin may be cheaper!!....HA!...all kidding aside, you will find that most if not ALL of your old equiptment will become just that, old...older...SOLD.... I believe that $$ for $$ Z's are the best value out there now...you can find a 101 amps that sound like.....etc...etc...etc.... Find one that sounds like a Z, thats not a Z....there aint none... I rest my case

I'm planning on selling some of my newer amps pretty soon. First Bluesbreaker reissue, Reverend Hellhound, Randall RM50 and maybe my Vox AC30 Korg reissue with blues. I might put greenbacks in it and keep the blues. Not selling any vintage stuff. It keeps going up in value all the time but the newer stuff is just used. So keeping the Zs and the Vs (V for vintage).

I had a bluesbreaker reissue myself....now that I think about it, my Ray and the BB were about the same size....BIG combos.....and if I recall, the BB had a big sound about it..I had mine modded to accept the KT66 tubes...had to use a washer set up to get things in place...drake transformers....BGuitar, you may want to hold on to that one....I wish I had mine, I think they are going to hold value very well and just may creep up ,,,,espicially the older ones with the Drakes....just a thought....I am on the fence with a Bassman reissue, eminine blue speakers, I really like that speaker in a low power 10...the thing is, this amp has been redone and signed by Doug Hoffman back when he was actually doing this himself... the work is first class and it sounds like it should......I just like that one personally...if that makes any sense at all....I did get rid of my bassbreaker 2-12 combo and hindsight tells me that I maybe should have kept it...as even fender had no idea how many they made.... But, since I am not independently wealthy, I have to sell some to get some...so I guess its a comprimise....like almost everything else....except Dr. Z amps....just a thought, the Dr. sets a very high bar, the pressure must be heavy duty.....even superman has kryptonite you know....course, before the kyrpto gets him weakened up......I would like to see the Z take on the F tweed.....now that would be a real nice club amp.....and a screamer too!!.....no bad mojo on the Dr. in any way, shape or manner.

Hi again, Wow you have a TSL 100 that's gotta be loud! I have a DSL50 and about 6 months ago I bought a Dr Z trainwreck attenuator. It helped a fair amount but I could only crank the volume to 4 and even on bedroom setting it was loud at band practice. That's when I decided to check out the Maz 18 and I glad I did!

Thank you everyone for your kind words, as well as encouragement!!! Thank you Seeking for the Karma! Thats what I was trying out, the Dr Z trainwreck attenuator on the Maz 18 and 38. I even had on order the Marshall power brake at GC. I canceled that and scraped the whole idea attenuation and chose to start fresh with Maz18. If I ever would use an attenuator, I do like the Dr Z one!! Again thank you everyone, John.

6250- first of all congrats! You'll love your Z!!
Secondly, should you decide in the near future to pick up an attenuator, look into the Weber stuff as well as Z's Trainwreck - Weber makes a few different models based on wattages and features...from simple to all kinds of whistles/bells...price points vary as well. It's a toss up between the Trainwreck and a couple of the Webers for transparency - all attenuators will change tone some by virtue of limiting power to the speakers, tone change from the Z/Weber products isn't so much a result of the physical attenuator components as the change in the speaker response/coloring resulting from the reduced power/load.

The biggest problem with the Z attenuator is the size, oh and the jack locations. I like an attenuator small enough to wrap in a rag and carry it in the back of the amp. An amp rig can never be too compact for me and hauling a shoebox size attenuator is not my idea of compact. When I get my 'Ray I'll try it with my old Kendrick attenuator. If I like what I get with it I'll probably try one of the small Weber's.
