Hey All. New owner of a used Jetta last week. Like new 2019 made. When trying it. It was fine.Took it home and really gave it a whirl. After an hour of band level playing. A "hum" appeared. (not a buzz, or hiss) but a vibration caused type of hum. If I touch the amp, and press on it. It stops for a sec or 2,3. If i grab the tubes (with a thick glove) it does the same thing?!? So I tightened the chassis bolts, even the Tranny bell housing nuts etc... Same problem.. But then.. After another hour, the Hum stopped!?!. Next day, same thing. Tubes look like they are glowing well. I can live with it because I plan on using it as a pedal platform, grab and go amp for Rock, small bar gigs. I just hope it's not "redlining" and that it won't blow in the middle of the race.. So i ordered a new set of Power tubes, and a Recto.. Any comforting/reassuring messages would be welcome.

Here is what the good Dr said: May 26, 2021 12:26:16 GMT -5 DRZ said: Ok it is a tube rattle to be sure. On new JETTA's I now use a different tube retainer that fixes that exact issue. It is a spring retainer from Amplified Parts P/N S-H141. Buy two remove the shark jaw retainers and install the spring type. I also super glue a tube dampener to inside top of the spring retainer this adds extra complete pressure on the top of the tube like your finger would. Also make sure the springs have a bit of tension by adjusting them and the lower mounting bracket. This simple cheap retro fit should solve your problems, and Mike should try it to.

The above and a new set of tubes and you should be fine. 95% of tube amp issues are the tubes, 99.9% if it’s a Dr Z. You’ll be good to go.

Just ordered some tube retainers, and silicone dampers.. Since I'm up In Canada.. I want to share "Next Gen Musical Ltd". With any Canadian owners in need of parts.

Well. Friday. The pilot light went off. Sound still good and strong. Shut it down then back up, and the light came back on. Had my first gig with the Jetta last night.. The light went out after the second set. Powered down and back on.. Nope! stayed on. Good news is that the hum is gone! Ugh. I saw a thread bout the pilot light, but if it had burned, would it have come back on friday?

I saw a thread bout the pilot light, but if it had burned, would it have come back on friday? It’s probably loose in the socket. Remove the jewel cover and push in and twist until it seats correctly. Additionally, like any bulb with a filament, the filament can have a loose and intermittent connection inside the bulb. I think a #47 is the correct replacement bulb type. I keep 10 packs on the ready. Could be a #44, can’t remember and don’t think it matters in Doc’s amps, one is brighter than the other.

Thanks.. I panicked. I have never had a light go out in 40 years!! Lucky i guess. :-) I thought the jewel was an intricate thing.. I removed the jewel, and the bulb is fried (tested for conductivity) That combo was whaling last night... An LED version might be the trick against vibrations.
