My Black Friday NOVA head just showed up yesterday and I am giddy. I already have an H&K GM36 (wet) and an Orange OR15H (dry) setup. I will be selling the OR15H. it's just not in the same league, which makes sense for the considerable price difference. The NOVA has surpassed my expectations and I haven't even put it through all the paces. A couple of questions for the group:
Q1. Did anybody else invest in a cover from Tuki on Reverb for the NOVA head? I saw some other threads / covers, but I like the Tuki. Any advice?
Q2. Why does the NOVA only have an 8-ohm speaker impedance? I saw you can hook up an 8-ohm speaker to the internal and another one to the external at the same time per the manual to get "4-ohms" total. I guess you can't hook a single 16-ohm speaker. You can, but it won't sound as good.
Q3. Is there really a difference when using the internal versus external inputs if I have just one 2 X 12" CAB (8-ohms total)? It sounded incredible on both, but the manual says to use the internal with a head.
Q4. Has anybody replaced the 5881 power tubes? I don't think they need to be replaced, but if I do need to replace them in a year or two, any experiences out there? Can I just get a matched pair or do they also need to be biased? I know they have to be matched. Maybe I am talking the same thing. The GM36 automatically adjusts the bias settings, so I never had to worry about this. I might shop for a good deal to have a backup set.
Q5. Does anybody else use a noise filter pedal with the NOVA? If so, do you like it in the input, effects loop or both? It doesn't take long to see what works, but I wanted to see if anybody else went down this rabbit hole. No real noise issue from the NOVA amp, but I have always had a noisy voltage input signal that needs constant attention.
Maybe I should spend some more time reading the manual and it will address some of these questions. I am a big fan of the Z quality, all the videos from Dr Z explaining why he does what he does. Glad I made the jump. The sound is just phenomenal. Happy Holidays!
