I'm looking at a used Maz8 and wondering if there's a way to tell if the upgrades have been done to it?
Thanks

If you are comfortable pulling out the chassis there should be notes with a date if the upgrade was done to it after it left the shop. Or, send your question with the serial# to Don at Z Repairs.

Thanks for that, I just brought the amp home. My guess is, from what I've read, the upgrades haven't been made, since the reverb is very subtle, even cranked. I'll contact Z anyway to be sure.....as an aside, this sucker is HEAVY!!!!

It is a sturdy sucka but it rocks. You could lose a few lbs by getting a NeoCreamback or some other Neo speaker. Re the reverb you might replace the reverb tube with an ax7 instead of the at7. Theres a lot of info on the Maz 8 thread re changes that can be made easily re tubes and speakers. Take some time and scroll through them, or just ask Don from repairs if you reach out to him.

Thanks again for the input, "Z" Steve. When checking for the serial number, as you suggested, saw the build date of 3/15 which, according to what I've read, is before the upgrades were made. No real matter, as I really only like a touch of 'verb anyway, sure not worth the couple hundred bucks to do the upgrade.
Are you saying that swapping out the reverb driver tube for an ax7 would add more reverb? If that's true, would be a lot cheaper than the upgrade.
Thanks again

The upgrade makes the amp's Master Volume improve by 1,000%. It really works perfectly and if I remember right in addition to the reverb improvement, the amp seemed to get more gain. I always say it took a great amp and elevated it to legendary. My MAZ 8 is staying with me, and I was considering selling it before the upgrade.

Quick update....I posted about this in the "amp questions/trouble-shooting" forum and thought I'd explain a bit further here. Swapped out the au7 reverb driver tube to, first an at7, then an ax7, looking for a little more reverb. The at7 did give me more and the ax7 got me even farther. I had been told that the reason for the au7 was to cut down on the noise, but I didn't hear any more noise with either tube and the reverb is definitely better than before. It isn't Fender-type reverb, and I really didn't expect it to be, but it is more useable than originally. Still experimenting with all the settings available. Playing only single coil guitars, right now I've found the following settings sound really good to me: Volume at 12 o'clock, bass at 2 o'clock, mids off, treble at 12 o'clock, reverb at 2 o'clock, cut off, master at 2 o'clock. Pentode setting selected. Tried the triode setting but I've never been fond of the tweed sound. With those settings, there is just a barely audible hum from the amp, way too little to even think about. Still doing some tweaking, but I'm pretty happy with what I have so far.
Stay tuned.
