I've given in--there is now a Z-Plus studio combo w/Z-12 speaker incoming to my harem; should be here later in the week. I've been using a Carr Skylark lately for my low-watt-6V6/tweedy-Princeton-y playing, but I believe the Z-Plus will be a better fit for me.
The Skylark is a killer amp for moderate & low-volume playing, actually. However I seem to find myself continually switching between low & high input-gain settings, and also constantly switching in & out of the attenuator. The Z-Plus with its Master Volume should allow me to get this variety of sounds in a more continuous manner, rather than switching modes (and subsequently, all the volumes) so frequently.
So, in all fairness, the Skylark is a very good amp (as are all of Steve's creations, just like Doc's). But the Z-Plus is a real shining star among Doc's creations--it does clean & moderate breakup as good as anything I've ever heard--and it's on track to go down as one of his best, ever. Looking forward to having this one!
HEADS UP: if you're in the metro Detroit area (or can get yourself here), the (only) Z dealer on the NW side of town is offering their Z-Plus 1x12 lite combo with Creamback speaker for a killer price. I'd have jumped right on it if I wasn't aiming for the Z-12 speaker & studio-combo. "Clearance" priced likely on account (?) of its removable power cable has been manhandled & slightly damaged on the sales floor. A cheap & easy fix, though, and would be a great deal overall.

I'm sure you'll love the Z Plus, it is a very special design. Metro Music in Detroit is NO LONGER an authorized Z dealer, hasn't been for a while.

Congrats on the incoming Z-Plus, Mark. I can tell you already love it conceptually, and I know it won't disappoint.

Z It's Motor City Guitar up in the suburbs--but yeah, I see that you have NO dealers in the state currently. So yeah... either way NOT a dealer but they're still sitting on some stuff (not sure if it was used or still "NOS" new). Thanks for clarifying, though!

Guys... I hate to be late to the party and all, but this Z-Plus is incredibly widely-versatile. Like, just wow, man! The complete bonus that I wasn't expecting is just how much overdrive you can get out of the EQ bypass, while at the same time it still remains "under control" and is VERY usable--likely thanks to the newer variable style bypass pedal. (So much more refined than the original EQ bypass on my MAZ which was all-or-nothing.) carrjimi was really onto something when he said, "What can’t this amp do?" I mean... it can cover a LOT of territory, and I haven't heard a bad sound out of it yet.
