Hi everyone,
I'm thinking about the preamp tubes in my Jetta combo. I don't care for JJ's in some amps/positions. I found the Sovtek LPS sounds nice in V2 of the Jetta, not as splattery as the JJ. I'm still searching for the right V1. The Tungsol is interesting, and actually, just now I have a chinese 12ax7 in V1, not bad, good drive and bite, tighter. Anything but the JJ. Those are too loose, frappy sounding in V1.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for your time,
Swampcooler

I replaced v1 and v2 with RFTs. The RFT in v1 lasted 10 min and then burnout (very slight burning smell and then just died); RFT in v2 remains good to go.
In v1, I now have a Northern Electric 12AX7 purchased from The Tubestore.com.
My rig: - Tone King Ironman II attenuator set to -7db, - Dr. Z 2x12 Open Back (oval cut-out) 1x Vintage 30 and 1x G12H 30 70th Anniversary - Les Paul plugged straight into the Jetta - Master at 12 O'CLOCK - Tone a hair shy of 4 O'CLOCK - Volume at 11 O'CLOCK - Strymon Timeline and BigSky in the Loop - I control clean and overdrive with the volume/tone controls
Impressions: with the above setup - the slight Loop noise was eliminated with the v1 change (at same setting) - a wee bit brighter - overdrive (guitar on 8-8.5 for clean...ish) bottom end feels tighter, but still loud and bold, great thump for palm muted stuff - nice clarity in the upper-midrange
Tone, feel, sound is subjective....just my impressions.
