I have been asking in other threads "What speaker do you use" question. Just a general curiosity as to what people are using. It is now the RT 66's turn. I use a 2x12 closed back Baltic birch floating baffle cab with Eminence LEGEND GB128.

I have had a preference for alnico blues, but I’ve shifted to an alnico cream of late for the amp- partially because the ZWreck seems to love the blues (speakers) and I like the voice separation between them. All that said, my greenbacks might be a little over the hill- I used to like mine more than I do now.
That amp makes every speaker I’ve tried sing.

I think the Route 66 sounds great with a lot of speakers, doesnt seem to picky to me but Id definitely lean Celestion. In a 1x12 I like the Vintage 30, Gold and for a good while used a 1964 Celestion G12 Alnico (with an attenuator). My favorite sound though was a pair of 68’ G12H30’s in a Zbest. It does really sound great on a Zbest with the stock Zbest speaker set, but then again most amps do lol.

DC here!
I use with my Route66 one of Doc's 2x10 cab (inhouse speakers) Sounds fantastic (to my ears) - for guitars I'm partial to 10" speakers. Like that combo with my Warmoth partscaster & the Seymour Duncan Telestacks
Have fancy wiring with a 4 position switch (bought from Austria) bridge and neck pickups seprately, Neck & bridge in parallell + neck & bridge in series.

While I agree with those folks mentioning Greedbacks (2 in fact!) I just dropped an Eminence Red Fang into my 1x12. Oooooooo is all I've got early in the test!

I have the RT66 and the DR Z 2x10 with the DR Z Eminence speakers. How would the Celestion 10” Greenbacks work in there. I seen you prefer Greenbacks but I wasn’t sure if you meant the 10’s or 12’s or both appreciate your response , Kevin from Elyria

I don't have exact info on Z's 10" Eminence speakers, but I'm pretty sure they're going to have a higher db rating than Celestion !0" greenbacks. (db rating= how loud is the speaker for a given amount of power)
Eminence is known for having speakers that, on average, have a little bit higher db rating...so they can be considered a bit louder. The Celestion 10" greenbacks are 95db...which is quite low...meaning they won't make as much volume as higher rated speakers.
Having a higher/lower db rating is neither good nor bad. It depends on your volume needs. But some of the forum members that have used the 10" greenback mention a noticeable drop in volume. (again, could be good or bad, especially with a non master volume amp)
If you think your Rt66 with the 2x10 eminence cabinet is too loud and you'd prefer something quieter, sure...give the 10" greenbacks a try. If you feel your rig has difficulty keeping up with a loud drummer/bass...I wouldn't switch to the 10" greenbacks.

I have 10 different cabinets and I haven't found any speaker or combination of speakers that don't work great with my 66.

I’ve been using a Greenback/TT4040 Combo with the 66, but I just swapped out the Greenback with an ET65 and the ET/4040 combo is fantastic. Sticking that old TT4040 with another speaker is just magic. I have had a couple 66’s, but this one is my favorite of the three I’ve owned. Must be the wood valance.

BTW, I plugged into my 1x10 loaded with an old TT40/40 10” and man o man does the 66 love 10’s too. I’ve been so tickled with this amp since I go it.

ok bubs42 , how many speakers do you have in the house? Man you going to make me count them. 10 Different 12’s and some multiples of and 6 different 10’s. I’ve had plenty of other speakers over the years. I would really like to downsize the stash but with the cost of shipping it really sucks out the ambition. Favorites: Celestion G12-65 (original early 80’s) ET-65 I believe that they nailed it. ET-90 What a treat of a speaker, almost alnico like. Greenbacks from the late 90’s, early 2000 with the embossed magnet covers. I own multiple Red Fang Ceramic, I’ve only seen two in the wild and I bought both. 1 marked Protoype #2. Tone Tubby 40/40 Ceramic, from the early’ish 2000’s. They changed the formula at some point, I don’t care if they say didn’t. Z12 !!!! Eminence Texas Heat Avatar 50, it really is like a G12H30 and a Greenback had a baby. WGS Reaper, Reaper HP, and Reaper 55. Celestion A Type and V Type 10” Ragin Cajun 10 Z10 Tone Tubby 40/40 10” early’ish 2000’s. Greenback 10 Red Fang Ceramic 10’s. I was disappointed with the ET10, IMHO it just didn’t sound pleasing to me. I REALLY WANTED TO LIKE IT. Honorable Mention: the G12-35L a lot like the G12-65 without the weight. I bought one for $20, took it up to my buddy Doug’s Studio and we were trying out speakers. I said lets through this and try it. We both looked at each other and said. “Well that didn’t suck!”. LOL

I did have a great V30 one time, but I sold it with the RT66 and Cab combo I sold last year. Sounded fantastic with that amp.

DC here!
How many speaker in da house - thats a very quick and easy one for me.
2 10" Dr-Z propriety for my Route66 1 Celestion 12" Alnico gold in my Z-Wreck combo 1 12# Celestion A in my Fender Blues Junior (in Barclona)
A grand total of 4 speakers.
Of course the way I understood the question I don't count the speaker config in my PA-system at the rehearsal studio.
Cheers: Dixiechicken!
