I have been asking in other threads "What speaker do you use" question. Just a general curiosity as to what people are using. It is now the Z-28's turn. I use a 2x10 solid pine, open back, Baltic birch floating baffle loaded with Eminence LEGEND 1028K alnicos. I also have a 5751 phase inverter.

When I had mine, I paired it with 2x10 Alnico golds. I was trying to coax some extra treble out of the Z28.

Mine is a head and convertible 1x12 Z cab. I like a Greenback, but they aren't very clear sounding to me and don't have full enough lows. I've been using the Z12 lately, which I like a lot.

When I had my 28 I ended up with 2 Jupiter 25 watt 10's - sounded great!
When I had 12's it went from a G12h, to a C Gold, to a C Creamback as well as a Greenback. I loved each one.

I have the WGS ET-65 speaker in a separate 1x12 cabinet. I called WGS for a recommendation. The speaker has a dip in the mid section and has good clarity.

The Celestion G12H 30th Anniversary speaker is a really good match for the Z-28. However, the Tone Tubby 40/40 ceramic (another big-magnet speaker that's basically a G12H but "more") is even better. A beastly speaker for a beastly amp.

When I had mine, I paired it with 2x10 Alnico golds. I was trying to coax some extra treble out of the Z28. On the same journey with mine. Currently sits with a g10 gold and Z10 speaker. I continue to research combinations to try but haven’t taken the plunge yet. Two g10 golds or possibly Weber blue pup/Weber silver. I did play the z28 through the Z12 speaker I use with my Z-Lux and it does have some added highs and fullness to the sound. The 10’s are more immediate in attack and direct though where the 12” seems to have more sag.

I have also used a 1x12 Z12 that is in my Z-Plus combo and it sounds fantastic with that speaker!

I’ve had a number of different speaker combinations overs the years but now it’s in a combo cab with a 10” gold and if needed I add a closed back cab with a Z-12. I add the Z-12 cab mostly if playing outside and I find myself micing that cab. I do remember at first micing the gold but then moved to the Z-12. It just sounded better to me - a bit more well rounded.

I almost always played mine through Celestion Blues in a homemade 2x12. The cab is about 2/3 the size of a normal 4x12, pine with a 3/4” thick birch baffle. The combination gave great bass and high end response that worked perfectly with the Z-28.

Either two greenbacks, a Red Fang, or a Celestion V Type. The Amps sounds great and if I get bore I just try another speaker.

The one I'm using most these days is a 2x10 Z open back convertible cab loaded with two C-Rex's.
