This Jetta head makes Z number 20 that I currently own. I was blown away from the first chord. It doesn't sound like any of my other amps, it really is its own thing. I can get similar sounds out of my other Z's, but this one is unique. I was thinking when I ordered it that it might be redundant, but it absolutely is not. Wonderful cleans and great light to medium gain. Adding a dirt pedal or clean boost takes it into the stratosphere and turns it into a different amp. I haven't found a pedal that doesn't thrive with this amp. The master volume is also perfection. Another masterpiece Doc, thank you for continuously evolving the line.

Sounds like you've got a good start of a Z collection going there!

Dang Tom, quite a Zelection you have, and I am surprised to hear you don’t feel a redundancy in it. I’ve been thinking maybe a Jetta would be a good louder cleanish headroom pedal platform amp…..this seems to support that.
Appreciate the post.

It is an UNBELIEVABLE clean platform and as I said, it loves all pedals. The gain is really nice too, I just wish it had a little more gain. Don't get me wrong, the gain is great and hitting it with a pedal makes it really nice. I could do absolutely any gig or recording session with this amp.

The first one gets you hooked and before you know it you have 7 or in your case 20. But will anybody beat the King of Z Jaguarguy (Mike)??

I had really high hopes for it too. I sold it really quickly. It's more of a Carol Ann than a Z (in my opinion) and I've never kept any of my Carol Ann's very long. They are top quality well made amps, but sonically they don't do it for me. Just my opinion of course.

The CAZ appeals to me, not as a high gain metal amp, but as a great rock amp or even a D-style amp through a 212 with G12-65s.

They are top quality well made amps, but sonically they don't do it for me. Just my opinion of course. Congrats on the Jetta. Seems like we keep seeing really positive comments about that one in particular. The CAZ surely isn't for everyone. And btw, someone was moaning about something on the gear page today and I tried to look up some demos on them to figure out what's going on. One in particular (Carrol Ann od3?), I could hear a lot of the CA sound in the CAZ even though it wasn't particularly well recorded. So kind of agreeing with you there in that if you didn't bond with the CA, you probably wouldn't bond with the CAZ either. After having the EMS for a while now and really having time to fool with it, I'm completely digging that one. You can pretty much coax any old great Marshall type sound out of that thing including the great clean ones. But, for a given gig, or say most of the bands I've been in, that very well might not be the right choice for the application and I could easily see myself grabbing a different Z for those. However, it was the type of band I'd want to play in, the EMS would win. BUT (again), I could see another person not bonding at all with that amp and having a really hard time with it. It's not very forgiving, whereas say the CAZ can be much more forgiving. Having said all that, maybe the Jetta is what I've been looking for all along. Life isn't so bad after all.

I've owned 4 Reinhardts and 3 Bogners and loved every one of them. Bob and Reinhold are incredible builders. Once I got hit hard by the Z bug, I moved them on. I still have many amps from other builders, but I'd have to say I found my voice with Dr Z Amps.

Yeah, I’d love to have an EMS but I’m really out of room (especially if I get a CAZ). The red 212 at Humbucker has been tempting for over a year but I’m out of real estate on the floor. Z’s are great, no doubt…and great company to boot.
