Got my Jetta a few months ago and love it! The power tubes recently became a bit microphonic, loud enough to warrant replacement, so I purchased a new set of Tung-Sol 7591A's, installed them, turned on the Jetta, and played for about 15 minutes whereupon I smelled what smelled like melting solder or maybe some other component.
Is this normal?
The new tubes are slightly mismatched at 45 and 46, but I don't think that should cause a problem, should it?
Thanks, Jack

I get that smell whenever I put new tubes in an amp. I like it actually. It usually goes away over time.

If those are Current readings of 45 and 46, then it is a tight match. 45 and 55 would bug me but probably still not cause troubles.

Ahhh. Nothing like the smell of vintage amps, hot tubes, and cigarettes.

Ahhh. Nothing like the smell of vintage amps, hot tubes, and cigarettes. Agreed, although I’d put pipe tobacco in place of the cigs

If so then what you are smelling is the adhesive for that I believe. No worry.
