My studio combo came with the DR Z 12". For a while I used a 1x12 Red Fang speaker cab in tandem with the combo's Z 12. Now, that cabinet is being used with my Z-Wreck Jr. I loved the Z-12 speaker when I first got the combo, but I grew used to the two speakers together. It might just be that my ears need to adjust to the change. It did get me wondering what everyone was using. What speakers are you using with your Maz 8?

When I bought my MAZ 8, Z was shipping them with Celestion Blues. Still sounds glorious, so I've never been tempted to try something else.

Currently the Z12 is in my 8 combo, but I've used a G12h, a Gold, a Creamback, and an ET65. They all sounded great but the Z12 has stayed the longest. The only one so far I didn't care for was a Greenback - it broke up way too early for me (which is what it is supposed to do).

I have a regular ol G12 M65 Creamback in my Maz 8. Great all around speaker. That being said, I'd love to try a Z-12 or a Celestion Blue.

I’ve always kept the stock G12H in all my Maz combos because I could never see how anything could sound much better. But you guys are saying the Z12 sounds as good or better?
Heck it would save ~3-1/2 pounds too and that wouldn’t hurt my feelings!

I've had a G12H30 in mine for a while but I think I'm going to go back to the Z-12. I have a Blue that I might give a whirl with as well. I tried it before the MKII conversion and didn't like it as much as the Z-12.

Celestion Blue here.

Note: I've had new Blues in several amps. All required a fair amount of break-in time before they reached full potential. My experience was initially a new Blue sounds somewhat brittle and lacking sufficient low end. And, for some, there may not be enough bottom even after break in.

Current speaker is the Z. Haven’t felt the need to change it.

Mike, ya got in my head, buddy. I have a Blue that was sitting in the closet after I pulled it out of a 5E3, and thinking about what you said about the Maz 8/Blue combination, I just pulled the G12H out of my Maz 8 and put the Blue in. I've got two words for you: Thank you! It sounds awesome. I've had that Blue for about 12 years and it's nicely broken in. It's been in and out of different amps but I think the Maz 8 is going to enjoy it's company for a while now. It is funny, because it seems to have better bass response than the G12H, which kind of surprised me in the Maz 8. Great pairing.

All this talk of Blue has me thinking. I have a blue in my Carmen Ghia. Now I am thinking of getting one for the Maz! First I will try the Maz through the Ghia and the Ghia through the Maz and see how it goes! Never tried the Ghia with the Z-12!?

I have tried several speakers in mine including a C-Gold. I don't own a C-Blue. I too liked them all except for the Greenback. In the end I have gone back to the stock Z-12. It is just a good all around speaker.

I played the Maz 8 through the Ghia's Blue. It sounded great and I was leaning towards making the switch. After a little more time playing some things sounded better, some not so much. Played the Ghia through the Maz's Z-12 and it was not bad but not as good as it's Blue. For now I will keep the status quo. I can always hook up the Blue or the Red Fang cabinet to the Maz.

After a lot of A/B testing I decided to make a few changes. I am getting a Greenback for my Z-Wreck Jr and moving my 12" Red Fang out of my 1x12 cab and into the Maz 8. The Z speaker was really good with the Maz but I just liked the Alnicos better with the Maz.

The Greenback came in today and I swapped everything. The Greenback is not even broken in and I already like it better with the Z-Wreck Jr than the Red Fang. The Red Fang sounds great with the Maz. The Red Fang being in a different cabinet required some tweaks to the tone stack. A little less treble and a little more bass and roll the cut a little more. Very happy with how they both sound.
