I had every intention of snagging a Jetta when they were first released but life just kept getting in the way - band dissolves... Bills pile up... global pandemic... yadda yadda yadda. My patience finally paid off and the New Amp Day that I was hoping for in fall of 2019 is finally here! I spent some time running it last night at some brutally loud volumes. this lil' thing shook the walls of my rehearsal space. completely blown away. Then I had the bright idea to run it dual mono with my Bogner New Yorker. unbelievable. No gigs lined up for the next couple months while we work on some new material so I'll have plenty of time to dial in this rig for Wet/Dry. Jetta taking care of the Wet side duties and the NYer set up to compress when played with a bit of force. I only got about an hour with the Jetta last night so my ears are still readjusting to it's voicing after a couple years of only playing through my AC30 and my Strymon Iridium at home, but I can already tell that it will easily become part of MY sound.

Looks fun. The OBNE Darkstar is on my “want” list…..a Jetta head may be as well. How do you like it’s vibe compared to your Bogner and Vox AC30? What would you describe it as?

Looks fun. The OBNE Darkstar is on my “want” list…..a Jetta head may be as well. How do you like it’s vibe compared to your Bogner and Vox AC30? What would you describe it as? All three are verrrry different. -The New Yorker, at any setting is very compressed and fairly dark. not quite muddy, but super warm in the mids and pretty squishy when overdriven. -My Vox(the AC30hw2x) is brighter in the mids but still compresses nicely when dug into. I usually run into the Normal channel and jumper over to the low input of the top boost channel which adds a bit of brightness and gain. This amp is truly the definition of "dynamic". Gorgeous chimey cleans when played lightly and starts to break up with chords. -The Jetta is a completely different experience all together. if I had to sum it up in one word it would be "OPEN". The headroom in this amp is really impressive and although I can start getting it to break up with the gain around 11 O'clock, it never falls apart as the gain goes up. I gigged a '64 bassman head into a closed back 2x12" cab and a '66 Ampeg Gemini I at different times over the years and I would almost say that this amp splits the difference between them almost perfectly... or maybe it combines the best attributes of both of them. As much as I liked running the Jetta and NY'er together, I don't know if they're especially complimentary. maybe a bit too much midrange focus from both of them together. I think the Vox would actually be a better fit to run with it. I would love to try it with something a bit brighter like the Morgan AC20 or even a Vox AC15. I hope this helps, I think I'm kinda gushing(and kind of rambling) at this point, but I'm still very much in the honeymoon stage, and looking forward to getting to know the Jetta more!

Really appreciate this….been thinking of adding something that can be big sounding and remain more clean. I don’t mind some grit, but was hoping for some bigger amp iron before he end of the year. The Jetta has been on my mind because of the simplicity, wattage, and price. Also because it comes in a head form.
Keep gushing….this is the place to do it after all. 😊

I'm also looking forward to trying it through a couple different cabs. I've got an old Marshall 2061cx that I think will be a great match with it and have a feeling it will sound absolutely massive through the AC30's pine cabinet with 2 alnico Blues. Depending on how it does plugged into these cabs I will likely have a headshell built for it. it would be pretty awesome to have such a versatile option.

It will be great to hear what you think in that experience. I’ve always felt my Z amps really shone thru in a band setting.

First full band rehearsal last night with the Jetta, and all I can say is wow. Wow wow wow wow wow!!! This sentiment has probably been mirrored here before, but where has this amp been all my life!? It’s the gigging amp I’ve been looking for the past 15 years-ever since I tried gigging with a Deluxe Reverb and realized it just didn’t have the headroom or punch that I needed.
I abandoned the wet/dry set up that I had initially planned on running for this rehearsal so I could get fully acquainted with the Jetta. I was rewarded with a sound and feel that I simply couldn’t believe was coming from this unassuming 20”x20” combo behind me. There was a clarity and tight, percussive quality that I had been missing in my AC30. The touch response is incredible, it has just enough sag to feel nice and lively under your fingers and give you plenty of sustain when you hold onto a note for a bit, but it also has an amazing quality that when you dig into full chords it never gets mushy. I was absolutely delighted when I played a section of a song with some palm muted power chords and it gave back a tight percussive thump... with a tele...into a 1x12 open back combo!? Wasn’t expecting that, but I’ll take it!
My pedalboard into the front of the amp worked perfectly all my drives and fuzzes seemed to melt into the sound of the amp and have never sounded so perfectly balanced-even my EQD Hoof seemed to be a high gain extension of the amp. I use a LOT of delay ranging from reverb type slap back, to stacked rhythmic delay, to big ambient washes and they all sounded big and clear thanks to the full frequency and headroom of the Jetta.
I honestly could ramble on like this ad nauseam but I think I can leave it at that. This amp is incredible and I’m so glad I finally took the leap. This amp is everything I hoped it would be and more.

Great update….I love hearing how amps effect the player. Z amps sit really nice in band settings. The notes are so clear, you don’t have to fight to cut thru. Keep up the posts when yo go stereo….eager to see how it pairs for you.

Congrats on your new amp!
One of the first times I used my Jetta on a gig I also brought a new guitar. Several band members told me how great my guitar sounded ... the bass player thought it was the best sounding guitar he had heard from my setup. Funny thing is I wasn't playing the new guitar, I was using my PRS DGT -same guitar I always use. The only difference was the amp.
Really a great amp!

Congrats on your new Jetta! I also much agree with your tone assessment. Mine sounds absolutely awesome at any volume with my Les Paul custom (humbuckers), my LP TV special, and my Strat! Enjoy…..
