Anyone using this tube in their MAZ 18?
Maybe I didn't look too hard, but I didn't see any threads concerning details about using this tube in the MAZ 18.
I'm interested in trying it to see what it's like.
Thanks,
MH

I got one from GT, one of the SAG MPI's from Myles to use in the PI. Seems to make the amp's response really lively. I was also going to go with one in V1, but GT was short on them at the time. Myles suggested the GT R2, which is their hand-picked LPS. Myles said the tone of the LPS and AX7M was very similar- darker, smoother. I'm happy with that setup in my Jr, although to be honest I'm not a big "toob geek." I think these amps sound great with just about anything in them.

I've tried the 'M' in various combinations in my Maz 18 NR and I didn't like it much at all. It was too bright and hard and didn't want to play well with pedals. I just recently went through all-day shootout with various 12AX7s and even a Mullard 12AT7 in the PI and, for my tastes, the best 12AX7 was the Tung Sol (all 3 slots), with the black-plate EI-ECC83 coming in 2nd, the Svetlana 12AX7 coming in 3rd and Shuguang 9th gen coming in 4th. The GT/Sovtek LPS is a nice tube too and sounds a lot like the Ei-ECC83, but I didn't have enough of them to test in all 3 slots. I used to use it in the PI with EIs upfront, but the three Tung Sols sound so amazing with pedals that I have not been inspired to try three LPSs.

I am also using a GT SAG mpi 12ax7m and I just received a backup for my next power tube change. I like 'em I also just put my second set of Svetlana's in V1,V2 and a NOS Sylvania rectifier from KCA Tubes and my Maz is just S W E E T!

I put one in the phase inverter slot a couple days ago, liked it fine at first but went back to a NOS 5751. I then put the 12AX7M in V1 and told myself that I liked it but realized after playing a couple of hours that it sounded "brittlle" and trebly. So, no go in the JR. When I first got the tube last winter, I put it in an Epiphone Valve JR, which is true class A--one preamp, one power tube. Changing preamp tubes in that amp reveals the true character of the bottle and, in short, it came out of there too for the same reasons it came out of the Z. The good news is that I got one that isn't microphonic but the bad news is that my mileage wasn't too good. Yours may differ. in the Z JR I prefer either the stock ei-ecc83 in V1 or a Sovtek LPS.
