Hey all,
Been dating a 2016 Gibson Les Paul Special for the past couple of years. TV yellow. 2 P90 pickups. Rosewood board. Decent weight and balance.
But I seem to have a wandering eye. Fender Telecaster Stratocaster Heck, even a Jazzmaster caught my eye.
Do I make a trade for the wandering guitar acquisition syndrome? Do I just out right buy a new to me Fender? Or do I just grab a beer and go back to online guitar lusting?
Cheers always, eh
Joel

Of course you just outright buy the new guitar.
That’s the only answer you’ll get around here. 😁

Change is good and keeps things fresh. Indulge your wandering eye if you find something you really like\want. As you already appear to have a Strat and Tele, a nice AVRI or AV65 Jazzmaster would be a unique change and you might find that you really like the JM. Have fun.

Ha, ha, ha, Joel, working on your comedy? You’ll get advice, but no one will talk you out of buying new gear on this forum. You already knew that. You seem to like the Gibson, so keep it. The only reason to part with it would be if you found another that is better. You know, really speaks to you. I love all guitars. They are individuals and each sounds a little different, even the exact same model (another thing you know). I like the differences in the oddballs, but I keep to Stratocaster and Les Paul and make them work. I currently have one of each and an old Vantage electric which fills the whammy itch (hasn’t been scratched in years!). A good acoustic and I’m done (again, there are some tones I’d like to find in acoustic guitars that I don’t have, I’ll live with it). My advice, if cash isn’t an issue, just buy it. If there could be some marital strife, think on it, and choose your pain. ME

Marital strife is temporary, the one that got away (guitar) haunts you forever.

We are a pretty great bunch here about spending money on musical stuff. In my old age and wisdom, I'd say if you like your LP, keep it and wait for the right fender to come around. If the LP is causing you grief, just get rid of it for something else. Also might add, I think the LP and Strat are the pinnacle's at the opposite ends of the spectrum. The tele is sort of in-between and kind of covers both, thought not quite getting to either. Jazzmaster, no idea.

After I sold my '68 Les Paul Custom (real 1968) I regretted it so much that I've only sold a couple of guitars since. They were both dogs and I don't miss them. I think if you love something in life and you can do it, don't hold back. Go for it!

Maybe this thread should be merged with Lefty’s “Life’s Too Short” thread 😉

You know, asking us to talk you out of buying a guitar is like rooting for a trust fund kid with a meth habit. It ain't gonna end well.

I'm thinking similar. I've never bonded with a Gibson (339, SG, LP Studio). I'm looking at a similar, but with buckers instead of P90's. The most recent seem to have some thicker necks. I don't know if it's only that I don't like a shorter scale, don't love humbuckers, or the necks haven't been big enough. The local shop has a pretty big selection right now and I'm thinking of bringing the Maz 38 with me and see if I can get down to what my issue with Gibsons.
It's also pretty tempting to just pick up a strat with a bucker in the bridge. I love my Jazzmaster and replaced a MIM Tele with a fat neck. Both are perfect and aren't going anywhere. The struggle is real.

Concur with those saying just to outright buy. If you sell a guitar that you like, you'll regret it. Don't ask me how I know....Ha!

Joel, I'm going to help you out . Take a look at a Nash T2HB: T-style body and controls, dual Lollar hunbuckers. And keep the LP Special.

Coming from someone who has the same Gibson special as you do...I could not imagine that being my number 1. its a great guitar but to me, it doesn't feel like home. It compliments the other guitars I have...or maybe I just haven't given it enough love for it to be my number 1...
brb...going to play my Gibson LP special...
