The Mods page has this on the Z-Lux MKII update:
"Black/Silver switch (rear mounted, adjusts amp between a softer or firmer playing feel)"
Would someone post a pic of this? I see one advertised that says it has the update but I don't see any such switch. The current pics of the amp on the main Dr. Z website do not seem to show it either.

Has this black/silver switch been known to exist in the wild? I see a ZLux for sale that is after the MKII updates and it does not have this switch. Has anyone ever seen one with it?

I think the switch is something you can get by upgrading from the old version to the new version. It’s an optional upgrade. It’s not standard with the Lux. I may be wrong about this.

Ask and ye shall receive. How do you hear the switch affect your tone and feel of the amp?

I think the effect is subtle, effective. Silver is the original Lux, while the Black is more blackface. I have mine on silver. I just like that better.

The switch bypasses the choke in the power supply, softening the attack more like a black panel would. I generally keep mine in silver ‘cause I like the punchyness of the full power supply or as Darth might say “the powa of the silver side…”.

As others have noted, the "black" mode gives you a little bit of sag, which, to my ear, sounds a little smoother on the attack. The "silver" mode is decidedly punchier, with immediate presence of the note being played. I find that in normal to small sized rooms, I prefer the "black" mode for a little rounder "feel," while on bigger stages, I like the "silver" to cut through a wee bit more. Both sound great, and both have their uses. Cheers!

So, this is available only on the updated models and not on the new production current versions?

So, this is available only on the updated models and not on the new production current versions? That's my impression, yes, but if you ping Don at the shop ( repairs@drzamps.com ), he's a really cool, really friendly guy who can answer pretty much any technical question. Cheers!
