Hey guys, I have a chance to trade my US standard Strat for a PRS SE Semi Hollow Custom. Apparently, the guitar is mint...I may take a drive to have a look at it and try it out. I don't know a thing about PRS but I am intrigued by this offer. I like my Strat but willing to try something different for a while. What should I look for? Is it worth an equal swap? My strat is Mint with case...

That would be a pretty close trade for an S2-series PRS. But for the SE line, I don't know... the SE's are foreign-made and they ARE "excellent for the money" but I don't know that they could compete with an American-made Fender "Standard" line guitar.
Granted, it's not perfectly apples vs. apples here--that PRS has humbuckers and is semihollow versus your single-coil bolt-on Strat. But again if your Fender retailed new around $1200~$1400 like most of them do, then your guitar (if mint) should compete against the S2 series of PRS, not the SE's.

Thanks, Mark...I will have to do more digging...he said it was an S2 so that leads me to believe better "trim level".

If it's an S2 It's probably worth it. They are made in the US but with less "trim" than the "normal" PRSs have and have import pickups. Which do sound good. If it's an SE, they are made in Korea with the pickups coming from the same overseas company as the S2s. If it's an SE, I wouldn't do it. Though they are killer guitars for the money as Mark said. I've got an SE semi-hollow, that I picked up used at a Sam Ash for $450 or $475 around 5 years ago. I don't think PRS has a semi-hollow standard out in an S2, but I could be wrong. There is a semi-hollow Vela out in an S2. Just saw one of them in a Sam Ash last week for around $1200 discounted but new.

I confirmed with the other party that it is a US model S2 semi hollow with case made in 2010. Looks like a decent piece. I love my Strat but may opt for a little something different.

Can't go wrong with a PRS and a new flavor is always nice.

It's identical to the one on this clip
